Things to do in Clayton
We ventured out from the usual popular spots to find something that was specifically ethnic and boy did we find a gold mine of restaurants. This restaurant had an interesting yet familiar menu. It was clean and comfortable, the food was delicious, generous and clean. The only thing is I feel a little suspect of msg in the food when the beef comes out very tenderised, almost too soft. The dumplings were well cooked and they allow BYO! Over all it was a good meal at a reasonable price. Will definitely come back...after we explore the rest of Clayton rd

Had a few meals in this place over the month for dinners at Mount Waverley. All dine in experience.Staff service is a mixed. Most are polite, others will just physically push you aside with their body while you're sitting down to serve or clean the tables.Tried the pan fried dumplings, shanghai fried noodles and chicken & prawn wonton noodle soup on three different occasions. The pan fried dumplings and chicken & prawn wonton are nice. Better tasting and quality than most restaurants which charges more for the same dishes. However, the shanghai fried noodle is underwhelming given the type of noodle used is not suitable for stir fry. Hence does not taste as good as other restaurants. Plus vegetables with the friend noodle is undercooked such as the carrots are half raw and hard. The place is generally busy with almost full house during my separate visits. Be prepared to be moved around if you're going there solo as the staffs tried to make room for multiple seated customers. Also long wait for food (about 15 to 20 minutes) to be served as there's plenty of food being cooked for both dine in and take away customers are in the queue.Price of food is reasonable and value for money provided you choose the better tasting ones. Place is reasonably clean. In short, this place is value for money for meals if you're choosing the right food but don't expect top quality service given the place is catered for the masses!

Due to PINGs being closed for Christmas. We made a visit to this restraunt and were very happy with the food and service.Meals were served quickly, were hot and good value.Although they have a different sytle of food it was very good quality and well done. The hot flasks of tea were very hot and replace as soon as empty. We all found the food to be as good as at Pings, which sets the standard for dumplings in Claton area. The only negative is they ar not licenced for BYO or bar service

Chopstick Delight is like your typical Chinese restaurants served by lots of Chinese aunties who will assumed you are also Chinese speaking Asian cause you looked like most Asians, but sadly I can only said "bu ke yi jiang hua yi" or Cannot Speak Chinese - which kind of contradicting I must say. The place is pretty much like the old style Chinese restaurant from your old Hong Kong movie. No fuss just eat and go. Despite the look, they serve a high quality Chinese food in generous portion and in great value too.My favorite in this place is the CHICKEN RIBS! I always have a soft spot for fried chicken ribs with spicy salt served with rice - and in their lunch menu you can also get to choose on free drink as part of the set. I always opt for the Thai Milk Tea or if not try their soybean if youâre not a soda drinker like myself. For one portion they give you generous amount of ribs - crispy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. Simply my comfort food.I donât even bother to try anything else apart from that one in this restaurant. My friend and I loves this soo much. We even brought our Indian friend and she loves it so much too. Kind of gives you a little bit satisfaction knowing someone approved your taste.Anyway if you happen to be around, just go in and give the chicken ribs a go. One of a perfect example not to judge the book by itâs cover. Definitely not very instagramable but definitely a must try if you are around the area.Location: 79 Mackie Road, Mulgrave, MelbournePhone: 03 9560 3688

Qilin is a quality Chinese restaurant in the suburbs. Stylish fit out, well spaced tables and nice tableware. Thereâs a small range of nice mocktails which can be easily adapted to being cocktails with the addition of vodka or rum. Drinks list is long with a good range of wines by the glass. We had the banquet. This included: a curried scallop (delicious), sang choi boy (great textures), Peking duck (superb), salt and pepper king prawns (great), peppered steak (eye fillet), Kung Pow chicken with cashews, fried rice and banana fritter. The service was outstanding and the food a cut above your local suburban Chinese. The place was dead quiet, not sure why as everything was terrific.Would highly recommend

We were quite impressed by the style and quality of this Asian restaurant. Good food at a reasonable price. The deserts are different and probably not to our liking but a good selection of meals and snacks. We found the restaurant very cold on a cold night and with open doors there was no where to hide. It was also a bit noisey with tiled floors and the noise carried very easily. Fortunately the restaurant was not full. I would find it hard to recommend for anything other than a quick bite to eat and then move on.

Came here for lunch and was not disappointed. Had the fried beef noodles, portion was value for money. You cannot go wrong with this place, except for the sitting arrangement, table are too close to each other and also small for two main dish and a side dish.

I visit this restaurant every time i come 'home' to Monash , Clayton having spent my formative years in Uni here 'yonks' ago. This establishment has been here since 1988 with same chef and family crew and you get great malaysian hawkers food here without heavy dosage of salt or msg.Mee goreng(mamak) and hokkien mee is good as you can get in Melbourne and certainly better than those malaysian restaurants in Kingsway The server is the co owner and she exudes genuine malaysian hospitality and can recommend you a range of malaysian street food dishesParking can be a problem these days but you can park behind at the parking lot.By the way, order a bowl of prawn crackers for $1 to munch whilst waiting for your food.

If you want a quick substantial affordable Asian dinner, look no further. Their dumplings are awesome. Also enjoyed the beef brisket on rice and the pork chops on rice.Big servings, no nonsense, but good service.Averaging $10 per dish for our family. If you want a container to take home left oversï¼it's 20 cents.

TIP. Restaurant is on Stephensons Road. Large car park at rear, with rear pedestrian entrance into restaurant.Smart looking table cloths. Two of us sat in a 4 person booth - nice, comfy, roomy seating. Long tables are available for small groups. At 6pm on this Saturday there were plenty of spare seats.TIP. BYO wine is permitted, but $7 per bottle corkage. The in-house wines are reasonably priced, so leave the BYO at home. Wines available by the glass. Beers available. Food is Hakka style (region in SE China) with Swedish influence. The #5 Hakka Fried Prawns with Steve's spicy Hakka dipping sauce were a delicious entree, and the Masala (spicy) Fish main course (pictured) was absolutely scrumptious - so full of spicy flavours - with Egg Rice side dish. And the Swedish Cake w ice cream for dessert was really good also. We'll have to go back again.
