They make tofu-based chicken, beef, fish dishes, all well-made. Good noodle and soup dishes. Well-priced. A local watering-hole, often crowded.

Located just off of Cedar Lane, Empire Hunan offers a nice experience in Chinese and Japanese food. Prices are moderate, service was friendly and the food tasted great. BYOB, there is a liquor store across the street. Parking is on Cedar Lane, metered, or on side streets, no meters.

The menu options and presentation in the menu are terrific. Unfortunately "terrific" doesn't apply to the execution. Our appetizers were cold. Not warm. Cold. The steak I ordered medium rare. My dinner came about seven minutes after everyone else's in our party. When it came, it was just above raw. And also cold. Forget sizzling. Cold. When the others in my party urged me to send it back, I passed, because I didn't want them to wait any longer. So I hated an expensive dinner. And the service? Atrocious. We didn't get a waitress or waiter to our table for almost an hour. I complained where is the waitress? She came right over with an extreme attitude. Couldn't crack a smile and never came over to ask if everything was ok. Will never come back. Very, very disappointed.

I found myself on Cedar Lane in Teaneck at lunchtime and out of the many interesting and eclectic restaurant choices available there, on a whim decided to try Taipei Noodle House. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is divided into two sections, one with tables and booths and the other with a sushi bar. The menu is very extensive with sections of Vietnamese and Japanese selections included. My wife and I split two dishes, ginger chicken with string beans and Vietnamese tofu curry with vegetables, both of which were very good. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and just the right touch of spice was included (one can ask for increase or decrease, though we did not). The service was friendly and efficient. If I am in the area again, I would certainly return to try some of the other dishes (particularly the noodles which are homemade).
