Orvieto [orˈvjɛːto] is a city and comune in the Province of Terni, southwestern Umbria, Italy situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. The city rises dramatically above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone called Tufa.

Upon arriving in Orvieto I was told by an American quartet that the place in town to get the best Spaghetti Carbonara was down the street. Now this is information that I did not request; so I reasoned that they must have just enjoyed a surreal dish. But having arrived late, my buddy largely responsible for the missed train, this restaurant as well as all the other restaurants in town were closed, I had to settle for a cabdy bar and can of coke...cookies for dessert. Now...After reading reviews it became clear what restaurant theyâre were talking about and I made a reservation. It was quaint with red checkered table cloths reminiscent of the 1950âs American version of an Italian restaurant. Our 2 waiters were very attentive to your every need. My buddy and I ordered the carbonara without an appetizer because of the sheer size of the plate. The pancetta was beautifully sautéed on top and was plentiful throughout the dish. The pasta was mixed beautifully with the egg mixture and made for a very satisfying Spaghetti Carbonara. The house wine was just fine, as with most Italian restaurants; but the other selections were reasonable as well. For dessert I opted for the panna cotta accompanied by a double espresso. My buddy...too full. A perfect ending to a classic dish!

In 2014 we decided to open in the center of Orvieto, an Oleoteca With kitchen, a nice farm store where sharing our passion for extra virgin olive oil. Two steps from the Famous Duomo, itâs a small restaurant with an old millstone where you can eat above;
The little restaurant looked like a simple place for olive oil tasting with some wine. At first, we were drawn to the little table outside. But on entering to ask for the menu, we realised that there was additional tables inside and a decent lunch menu.Ordered a pork chop, bruschetta and cold cuts. The pork chop was particularly outstanding. As it is an olive oil specialty shop, the olive oil at the table was delicious and we clearly bought some for home. The ambience was cosy and inspired. Felt like dining in an immersive olive oil grocery shop.
We were delighted to discover this small restaurant, which apparently had just recently opened. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The menu featured local ingredients and cuisine, exquisitely prepared by a talented and creative chef. And the service was outstanding. The Hostaria is on a quiet street off the beaten tourist track, but well worth a few minutes more of walking. Also, the price was surprisingly reasonable, considering the quality of the total experience. Highly recommended.
