This is an eating place just below the summit of Falkenstein. It is well worth the walk up (a bit of a scramble the last 200 yards, so wear stout shoes). Admire the view, then back to the restaurant for something to eat and a fortifying glass of Prinz Leupolds Donker Beer. If you can get a table on the terrace - heaven! Then to admire the architects designs for the projected castle. King Ludwig II was a monarch who, 1) never involved his subjects in a war, 2) left them richer when he died than when he came to the throne, and, 3) whose hobby was building fairytale castles on mountain tops. Yet they called him "Mad King Ludwig". There is no justice in the world!

Arrived in Oberjoch having taken the scenic route from Bad Hinderlang several hundred metres below by service bus. having decided to take a shortish walk through the scenic moorland via the Moorweg towards Unterjoch we were ,along with many others thwarted in our search for refreshment as the half way house was subject to Monday closing. Thus we came back and took light refreshment in the form of delicious soup on benches outside the Moorhutte (rather than the restaurant inside) where we had unrivalled views of the mountains and cable cars some of which were open despite it being late October. Really great experience with the hutte having its own herd of goats and a gentle circuit round the pond which appears to be used for swimming on warmer days. The air here has a fantastically pure quality difficult to appreciate in the valley below.

Ate out here this evening with friends, and we all had excellent meals. The restaurant was fairly busy, and the service was extremely good, friendly and efficient. There was a special additional menu using seasonal produce, on this occasion it was mushrooms (other times we have visited it was asparagus). Two of us had cream of mushroom soup with fresh thyme, which was fabulous, and others had buffalo mozzarella with apple smoke and tomato salsa. I had carpaccio of salmon with an avocado mouse. To follow, we had a chicken salad (v large), chicken on a bed of rocket risotto, and kasespatzle. All excellent. This is the best restaurant in Bad Hindelang in my opinion.

what's good:- trout dishes- venison dishes- Haxen / pork knuckle (Thursday is Haxentag); there are 5 or 6 pork/lamb/veal knuckle dishes on the menu. Perhaps a bit more sauce could be poured over the Haxenpfanne, but that's the only reservation.- desserts: huge slices of home-made cakes (especially Bienenstich is good) and even bigger Kaiserschmarren (kind of sponge-cake chunks with apple mousse for dipping in)- outdoor seating with view of the mountain rising just on the other side of the stream- portion sizes (so be careful to make sure you have space for those desserts)they're closed on Mondays.
A fine place to dine in style. Not cheap but a great experience. Beautiful food, well served and great wines

This restaurant is an absolute must if you are after a special meal, but make sure you make a reservation. The restaurant was very busy for a Sunday evening, which was a good sign. The menu is very extensive, with a daily special menu of five courses, which three of our group chose. The courses were just the right size, and decent gaps in between. The food was expertly presented, and the ingredients were of high quality. Everything was just perfect, and none of us could criticise anything. This was quite simply the very best meal I have experienced in Germany, indeed the best meal I have had in a very long time. The environment is delightful, very warm and cosy with lots of atmosphere. I can't wait to return here as often as I can. For the standard of food, the prices are reasonable.

Enroute from the Zurich airport to Oberammergau, Germany, my wife and I by chance stopped at the Gasthof Baren in Nesselwang (Bavaria) for lunch. What great fortune. We were personally greeted by the owner who gave us a terrific history lesson regarding the building and business as he was particularly proud that Baren had served many American officers and servicemen during WWII.Our meal was simply outstanding. I had a most delicious pork dish. My wife is a vegetarian and the owner insisted on having the chef prepare a colorful dish of vegetables and potatoes. The local beer was more a treat than a beverage. It indeed was a stroke of luck that we stopped in and enjoyed one of the best meals that we have ever had in Germany. The food/drink was beyond reproach as was the service and friendliness of the owner and staff. We highly recommend this restaurant and will likely go there again when in the area.

We stayed in the village for 2 nights and chose to get dinner at this place both nights as we thoroughly enjoyed the food (we had the schnitzel, trout, pumpkin soup and ghoulash), and the service was great (we don't know any German, but the waiters were great and very helpful). The prices are fitting the food and the portions which are huge! The only thing is we had to wait quite long for our food so after a day of hiking/skiing and the wait the portion size is just right!

This is an excellent little restaurant in Wertach, a pretty village in easy reach of nearby towns like Nesselwang. The restaurant is slightly away from the centre of the village, but easily reached by foot (especially on Tuesday evenings when many other Wertach restaurants have their "ruhetag"). Beim Olivenbaur is open every night. The cuisine is a mixture between Italian-styled pasta bad pizza, which many local German/Allgau specialties thrown in. Portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. Service is quick and friendly, and if you are lucky you will be offered a glass of the delicious beer liquor that the restaurant makes and sells.
