Zucchini Spagetti with spicy tomato Sauce and Tofu BologneseThis was definitely the best tasting vegan food I've ever tried. Great balance of the spices and really nice creation. This restaurants rocks quite a few great creations like the Salad with Goats Cheese covered in crushed Almonds, some fresh Mint leaves and Raspberries with a Raspberry dressing. And try some of the home brewed beers - it's worth it!The only downside is that it can get quite load if it's busy. We come back anyway :-)

Very authentic western Czech food. Try the Szegedin - Bohemian Goulash or the Svickova - Czech version of Sauerbraten, the Hradcany - Turkey breast with a cheese sauce and the Amalka Rumpsteak (Sirloin) covered with ham and melted Brie or Camembert. They also had a special of Schweine Haxen (Pork Knuckle) roasted to tender perfection with the skin crispy and the fat easily removed. We were a family group of 5 and brought the left overs home. We literally ate two more meals from what was left over. The owner is Czech and was visible all the time, making sure all was well. They also have the original Budweiser (Budva) and Pilsner Urquell on draft and a good selection of schnaps and spirits. After we finished with our dinner the owner offered a free round of Schnaps, which we had to decline, because we had enough alcohol for the night. He then insisted on free coffee, espressos or cappuccinos. We left happy and satisfied. They have indoor and outdoor seating in the summer. Total cost for 5 including tip was 180 Euro.Parking is available across the street in front of a park.

Bauernstuben im Hotel Ochsen Post

Reviewed By JoachimBruxelles

It took me some 6 months to write this review. Can one write such a negative comment after we have been in the Bauernstuben for many years? We were for another family dinner out last weekend in the Pforzheim region and we avoided again going to this place, so I thought it is finally time to do it. Many of my co-contributors praise - rightly - the nice atmosphere of the Bauernstuben and the hotel Ochsen-Post. The atmosphere is still the same. Even the quality of the food has not changed. What has changed for old customers is that the Bauernstuben has reacted to the crisis as many others do (raise the prices and cut the costs).Let me tell you my story: We had reserved a table for 10 persons (incl. my small son and some elderly people) for a lunch on Saturday. We were on time and had the menu a la carte. We had aperitifs, with the starter a white wine and with the main course a red one plus mineral water. I was surprised to note at a certain moment that I was not asked whether the service should bring a new bottle, when the old one was finished, but simply a new bottle was opened (which was in both cases from the upper end of the price list). Not so surprising that the half full/empty bottles were taken away (and ended in the kitchen). Moreover, I had with a friend a Chateaubriand which came at some 60 Euros for 2 persons. It was a huge chunck of meat (well prepared, no doubt, but who wants to eat 300-400 gr of grilled meat per person?). When we had finished the service came and asked whether he could bring the second serving. I wanted to quit already, but my friend said that we would take another piece. We waited for this for some 30 minutes while my other guests had already finished their main course. So nobody got any decent dessert, as the service said when we had finally finished that the kitchen would now be closed (the owner/chef was sitting with other guests/friends and did not care). I left frustrated with a check of some 600 Euros - on which I found later that the second serving of the Chateaubriand was bllled with another 60 Euros.

My first visit in 1952 with my school class has inspired my love for this place. I still come here every couple of years for over 60 years now. Heavy hand tp hand combat partisan fighting here during the final days of WW 2. Shady walk along a gurgling creek, the Monbach. Listen to the birds and hums of insects and butterflies. No uphill, leisurely stroll with plenty of benches to rest along the way. Stop at Bas Liebenzell afterwards an enjoy a concert in the park or coffee under the trees. Breathe in the fresh Black Forest air. Enjoy a round of golf at the nearby country club. An hours car ride to Baden Baden, casinos etc a place frequented by the former Shah of Persia and his first wife, Soraya, and Freudenstadt, great skiing in winter, hiking in summer etc. 2hours from Strassburg and the Alsace Lorraine region.

Had a great meal here last Friday. Interior is very cozy (it was cold out), decorated with German National Team soccer memorabilia. Waitresses were bustling about serving great looking food. Food was German (schnitzels and pork roasts/steaks) but also beef specialties. Our dinners were generously sized and delicious. Prices reasonable. It was a bit noisy, but the restaurant was completely full and there was a large party near us. Definitely make reservations. There was a very small bar.

Nice relaxed cafe/bistro with an outdoor terrace that catches the sun late afternoon/early evening. Can just have drinks or they have a menu with choices such as spaghetti, currywurst, plenty of salads plus some ‘finger foods’. We ate spaghetti bolognese plus shared a mixed salad. Prices are very reasonable. The 2 people that served us were very friendly and both spoke English.

Gotta tell you about my experience here. Stumbled across the place on a trip through the northern Black Forest. A micro brewery with a full blown kitchen German style. The beer tasted great and was brewed as fresh as can be. One can watch the brewery whilst waiting for the food. Everything very German, efficient, stainless and inviting. The food was down-to-earth German Svabian style with Spaetzle being offered too. To my astonishment, the menu was packed with delicacies and they were really affordable. Canadian Buffalo (imported) topped the price range, but that protein must have been shipped here before one can dig in. Great salads too and a big outdoor dining terrace as well.

This is a kind of traditional German-Austrian restaurant where you can have dinner and feel like in a fairy tale as the surrounding is really inviting and warm. It is a small place with great atmosphere. Needless to say, that the food was extraordinary especially the traditional ice-cream with hot raspberry.
