Reviews on Central European food in Nordlingen, Bavaria, Germany. Nördlingen is a town in the Donau-Ries district, in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany, with a population of approximately 19,190. It was first mentioned in recorded history in 898, and in 1998 the town celebrated its 1100th anniversary. The town was the location of two battles during the Thirty Years' War, which took place between 1618–1648. Today it is one of only three towns in Germany that still has a completely established city wall, the other two being Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl.

We spent 9 days in Bavaria area. This is the first and best German restaurant that we tried. There were only one other couple having lunch on the day we visited. The setting is formal. The veal schnitzel is really the best! I am missing it already! No English menu. This restaurant is a must try!!

Located just outside Baldinger Gate in city wall. Modernist glazed extension to an old mansion* with large terraced area. Contemporary décor and easy chairs. Relaxed ambience. Excellent food and prompt service. April to June is white asparagus season and they have this as âSpecialsâ with pork medallions or steak.*Postfix âââ¦leâ is a local diminutive and hence âSchlossleâ literally translates as âLittle Castleâ.

The location of this hotel is ideal - in the very center. The room is so modest, that you have an impression you are still in the monastery. The bed is proper for some VERY SINFUL monk. Moreover, the bathroom stinks and the whole place does not look clean. The hotel parking costs 8.5 Euro per night. It is open for everybody for the same price, so sometimes there is a problem to find a place there.

While visiting family, wanted to take them out for dinner. Eichendorfstuble was recommended as a favorite for the food quality, portion size and value. What a find! Along with their excellent entre's, their house salad was excellent. Arnold and Karin own and operate this neighborhood pub and take good care of their patrons. Eight adults and 1 child ate and drank their fine bier for 90 euros. Prima!Nordlingen is an historic city on the Germany's Romantic Road. It was pointed out that the prices were so good because the Stuble is located outside the city walls. Restaurants inside the well maintaIned and charming walled city charge more for their food as you would expect. This is one of those places the locals patronize for all the reasons noted above. Their website has a menu - check it out.

After wandering around Norlingen we decided to have dinner at the Gasthouse zum Fuchs. A bog standard German Pub the waitress was attentive, the food arrived quickly and was really well prepared. Not an extensive menu, it did however have many Bavarian favorites including Pork Hocks and Schnitzels which is what we had and thoroughly enjoyed. As is typical in German Pubs they had numerous beers on tap which were all excellent. Not a fancy place but it certainly does a good job filling up an empty stomach.

We had dinner in the beer garden. Very busy with a friendly crowd of locals visitors. I had schnitzel with boiled potatoes and it was fine and the portions were enormous. Not high class but good homely food in a lively setting.

We found this place while exploring the town, and made reservations to come back that evening for dinner. This place is very popular with locals, so we are very glad we made those reservations. It's very charming and modern-looking, the food was excellent, and our server, Yvonne, was outstanding. They don't have a translated menu (which is fine-we enjoy trying to decipher what we can), and Yvonne helped by translating every dish on the menu for us. She was very helpful, kind, and fun. This place was a one-of -a kind experience.

We stopped here for a dinner and the staff could not have been more helpful and efficient. We had Gemusegratin which was wonderful and looking at other diners food, everyone seemed to be very happy with their choice and have to say the portions were plentiful.
