Food and atmosphere were amazing. Everything from the goat cheese tortellini with grapes and apples to chicken or steak were amazing. The food was beautifully presented and the setting is a mix of modern with historic charm. The hotel is perfect, I didn't want to leave. The grounds are picture worthy.

Weinhaus Merowingerhof

Decided on this venue on our first night in Andernach. We were welcomed on entry by very friendly staff. We both decided to have the Argentine steak for dinner. Wonderful quality and well worth the cost. Steak with all the trimmings was really good quality and massive in portion size. If you are in this town I would recommend your evening menu here. It opens at 1800 which is great for eating before visiting any pubs/clubs or just walking on the promenade.

After our walk to the lake and our visit to the Cathedral is was time to take the lunch. We decided to take the lunch at this location which was a mistake. We choose the Goulash soupe with a bun 2/5, very salty and the soup of the day with a bun 1/5, in fact not drinkable, extremely salty. We tried to solve the problem by adding hot water but even then the salt quantity was far to high. We asked the waiter to try the soup, he admitted immediately the soup was not drinkable. Free of charge we were allowed to change the soup of the day for an also very salty Goulash soup! Other products we saw didn't look very attractive too.

Vulkan Waldfrieden

We visited this restaurant on Sunday (late) afternoon on 28 June 2015. Since the weather was so nice, we decided to eat outside. Even though we had not made a reservation, we found two outside tables available. So we selected a table and sat ourselves. One can also sit inside; however I was NOT inside the establishment during this visit but there are several photos of the inside on the Vulkan Brewery and Waldfrieden Restaurant Internet Page. This restaurant is located near Marie Laach and the Benedict Monastery on L113. The kitchen specializes in homemade German / Italian food and their Vulkan Bier. The Menu is easy to read and understand. Plus, salads, soups, and vegetarian meals are also available. Prices are above average and the portions are fair. After studying the menu, we ordered our drinks and our drinks came relatively quickly and they were nice and cold. However, another person, other than our waiter served the drinks and this other waiter didn’t know who had ordered what. So we had to play the ‘switch the waiter/waitress and re-clarify what was ordered game’ that so many restaurants play. I hate this game! The silverware and paper napkin (which I prefer over cloth) came in a nice paper pouch, for each of us. However, the napkin was just too small and too thin, so I had to request another one. Both my partner and I ordered the Feine Bandnuldeln with beef pieces and a side salad. Both dishes arrived at the same time; nice and hot. However, our salads were served after the main entrees and so our salads sat there while we ate our hot noodles first; which meant that the bugs were able to eat our salads, also. Plus, even though we ordered noodles, we had to ask for two spoons to eat our pasta. The outside tables are orderly set-up along the terrace in front of the restaurant. The outside eating terrace is raise above the street level, which prevents customers from being disturbed while they eat by passing pedestrians and protects customers from cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc passing by on the main street in front of the restaurant. There are outside tables for 2, 4, and 6 persons. The outside tables and chairs are sturdy teak wood with a black metal frame. The outside atmosphere is pleasant, clean, and nicely decorated. The restaurant’s outside area is roomy and well organized concerning space, such that even when the tables are full, it is not chair back on chair back. The tables are nicely spaced with room between them for people to move about within the outside eating area and between the chair and tables without having to disturb other customers. The outside tables are simply decorated, with a plant and a clean ash tray. Also, on each table is the drink menu, which allows one to look it over while waiting for the waiter/waitress to take ones order. The 4 person tables on the terrace are protected from above with sun umbrellas. The 2 person tables are not (for those that like to sit in the sun). Chair cushions are available for the outside chairs. Plus, to speed service there were Menus stacked and clean silverware sitting on a table by the front door for the waiter/waitresses to access. Even though the waitress came by with the two spoons, an extra napkin, and the salt and pepper shakers, etc. We were only asked it everything was OK when the empty dishes were taken away. However because of the narrowness of the outside terrace, outside would NOT be a great place for a big group. However, according to their Internet page they have seminar and other rooms inside. Depending on the outside activity, it can get loud outside in front of the restaurant. Passing pedestrians, cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc are a small problem. However, the motorcycles that drove past the place were just too close and the noise level too high. While the restaurant did have background music playing, because of the noise level outside it was often hard to hear. This restaurant has a dirt parking lot, across the street and other parking is possible in front or across the street on another side. However, on a good day, the spaces are quickly taken. And while there is a covenant bus stop in front of the establishment, one cannot park here either. So one has to go hunting for a parking space, must be creative in finding one or wait for one to become available. However, parking is free. When were ready to leave, we were friendly wished a pleasant day, as we finished paying our bill, received the correct change and gave the waiter his tip. The Beer Brewery and this Restaurant have their own Internet page. This Internet page has lots of information on it; such as the location, telephone number, opening hours, On-line reservations, an internet contact form, photos, and their On-line Menu. But it is only in German. Access for disables persons from the front is difficult. One has to climb up about 12 steps from the street level to get to the terrace or inside. Possibly there are easier accesses from the sides, by ramp to the terrace; however, I didn’t explore this.Dogs are also welcome. Water bowls are available.Summary: Based on taste, price, service, and atmosphere, my overall this restaurant receives my high recommendation. When in the near of Marie Laach or the surround area, this is a good place to eat. However, I wouldn’t make a special trip to this location just to eat.

Far away from the 'madening crowd' (tourists), in the Vulkaneifel (volcanic part of the state of Rhineland Palatinate), this brewery boasts the deepest beer cellar in the world. The beer is cold and tasty and the food menu is varied and more than adequate. We arrived there on a sunny monday at around noon and managed to get one of the last available tables in the brewery's own beergarden. A half hour later, the place was packed- mainly with locals which is a good sign if one wishes to receive value for money. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and we did not wait long before our oders arrived. If you want a rypical german beer garden experience without touristy trappings, you cannot go wrong here!Dear Mango,Thank you very much for your feedback. We are glad that you had a nice time in the Vulkaneifel and our beergarden.Best regards, your Vulkan-Team
