Every year when visiting our aunt in Lich we make a point of having a meal at the Klosterwald. This year we found the food even better than in the previous years. Our aunt had the "Zander filet" which she enjoyed tremendously; it was served on a bed of deliciously prepared pearl barley, which we found very creative. My husband ordered the majesfilet (Vinegared herring) served on a bed of perfectly sauteed broad beans, which was excellent. I ordered a pork dish because I had to have the Spaetzle it was served with, and the Spaetzle was good and the pork did not disappoint. The friendly waitor attending to us was very professional and helpful. We sat in the room with the fireplace which is very bright with big windows, and I think the cheerfulness of this room added to our lunch experience. In the past we often sat in the other sections of the restaurant which are darker and not as inviting. The garden is also wonderful if the weather is sunny. Have for years been wanting to review Klosterwald and am so glad to finally get around to it! Enjoy!

I would have considered to give this restaurant a 4.5 if the service matched the style of this more upscale restaurant. What a beautiful location in an old monastery. A must walk around either before or after the meal. The beer garden/courtyard is simple and tastefully done with umbrellas for shade and couches for those who want to relax. Too bad there are not professional photos of this restaurant by its' management. When I looked at the menu, being english and knowing only very basic German, it looked like basic dishes. What a surprise. We had a wakame salad to start and that was totally surprising and delicious! Especially the 'mango caviar' on that dish. My Pims went along very well with that starter and it followed with two main dishes of snitzel (one of the best I've ever had as it was actually juicy and not overcooked) and my partner had a delicious pork dish. The dishes were accompanied by a beautifully done salad, again surprised at the tastes. Great food and at a reasonable price I think given the atmosphere. The service was substandard. I would expect with this more 'posh' atmosphere to be at least one more professional servant and two were clearly not enough for this Thursday evening. I get a little deflated when my drink runs out and the wait staff never seem to notice this; or they don't seem to be bothered having 10 minute conversations with other tables. They were a little abrupt at times as well which I never appreciate nor understand. This will always cause a restaurant's reviews to lean toward negative. However, they coped. There is room for improvement here.Be aware, like a lot of outdoor restaurants, the wasps were very plentiful and very annoying; the burning coffee grinds just don't seem to affect these nasty creatures. When family come overseas, this will be very high on my list to proudly show this restaurant. Will return definitely and perhaps better dressed.

We walked around town on a Friday night looking for a bit of nightlife and after wandering around a bit, we stumbled along this place. Unlike all of the other bars which seemed mostly empty, this place was very crowded, but we were lucky enough to still get a table. They have a large drinks menu with many kinds of beer and spirits and a food menu. We weren't really hungry but the food the others had looked good and the service was good and quick in spite of the crowds here.
