We didn't like this place that much. Our tour books recommended this place or the Orosi Lodge for dining in the Orosi Valley. The Orosi Lodge has pizzas, sandwiches, and more casual dining. This place, according to the tour books, had cheap casados (traditional Costa Rican meal) and delicious chicken and pork roasted over coffee plant wood. I was intrigued by the roasted meat, so we went here. While this restaurant does cater to tour groups - it could easily seat 100-200 people between indoor and outdoor seating - the food was not that good. My daughter liked her pork chop casado. My kids got burgers with weird sauces on them that one son said tasted like "salty grease." Another son got a chicken and rice dish he liked. My husband and I did not like our food. My husband got a lomo dish (beef) and I got a chicken dish that was bizarre. It was pretty - it was served on a banana leaf that they cut just before serving my food. The chicken was battered, fried, and sliced, but it had cold, wet tomatoes, onions, green beans, and broccoli sprinkled over it. All of those veggies were covered in a sweet sauce that was odd. There was a side of refried beans, pico de gallo, and chips. The beans were sweet. I have never before had sweet refried beans. It's as if the cook or owner thinks everything needs to be sweetened. They served chunks of avocado with the skin still on and the avocado didn't look fresh. About the only things I liked on the dish were the chicken and the pico de gallo. But I paid around $12 for this plate, which is high for Costa Rica. Everything on the menu was more expensive than it should have been. I wish I would have read these reviews beforehand. If you're in there area, I would look up the reviews for the Orosi Lodge. That was the other recommended restaurant. Another thing: the service was not good. There was a big soccer game on and most everyone in the restaurant, staff included, was watching the game inside the kitchen/bar area. The only person we saw was a teenage waiter. Half the time he was on his phone, talking, texting, looking at it, while our drinks and food were waiting to be delivered. I was tempted to go get it myself, but I waited as my blood pressure rose for him to get off his phone and deliver it.

Stopped here for lunch on the Mercury holidays 'Captivating Costa Rica' tour. Food is ok but the location is stunning! Most of our group eat the average quality food quickly so as to allow time to explore the various nature trails around a picturesque lake.Wild life we saw included copious humming birds, spiders, vultures, toucans etc.The flora is equally stunning......a real gem in every sense other than the food which was ok for quantity but bland in the extreme.

This hidden gem is very popular. Locals will travel a long way to eat here. The restaurant is set in a wonderful garden lovingly tended by the owner who knows and greets all his guests personally. His enthusiasm and customer care alone make this trip worth while. The trout is fresh from the restaurant's own water. It couldn't be more tasty: crisply fried but still juicy and soft on the inside. The side dishes are to die for. Try the fried plantain and fried yuka! This is definitely one not to miss. Highly recommended!
I entered by chances with a friend and did not want to leave: quality, courtesy, choice of the meats were just super. Local comida cooked as you would do at your home, at your aguela's. Owners incredibly nice. Definitely the place to go. Good job guys!Hola muchas gracias por hermoso comentario.Onde su agüela la parrilla 100%âFue un placer haberlos recibido un abrazo y recuerden es su casa.

We ate dinner at this restaurant twice during our four day stay in the Orosi area. Pros:- well priced and tasty casados which made both the meat eaters and vegetarians in the family happy. I had the casado con lomo both nights (lomo is kind of a mini steakette) and it came with the standard rice, beans, salad, fried plantain plus something tasty that may have been a potato salad. There were more expensive dishes/cuts of meat on menu that we didn't try. The caramel flan for dessert was good too. The fresh juice smoothie was good too. - friendly and courteous service- kids menuCons:- street noise as it's outdoors and very close to street, bring bug repellant for evening, some may find the food a bit salty
