About 50 miles northwest of Panama City, Colón is home to the northern gateway of the Panama Canal as well as Afro-Caribbean descendants of those workers who helped build the canal in the early 20th century. Colón’s greatest claim to fame—and the main reason visitors come here—is the Colón Free Zone, a massive shopping showroom where wholesalers, retailers and the general public shop. A bit apprehensive after reading reviews but our experience was reasonably good. Yes service is laid back, typical down here and they over charged by $2 on the special did not want to correct bill so got no tip. But the seafood soup was very good and ample portions @ $7.Colon has little to offer cuisine wise, probably best spot in area. Removed a star due to overcharge.

Ate lunch after driving along the Panama Canal. Was the only hamburger meal during the week. Had shrimp and calamari appetizers, Burger was much better, appetizers only marginal. calamari was over cooked and dry. great atmosphere and view of boats and water.
