In the central market you can find this stall, where during lunch time fish dishes are served. The restaurant is very simple, but all the dishes tasted very well. Very good value for your money.

Martinique is expensive, restaurants, even unassuming beach huts, are very expensive. Local cuisine is mostly found in not so great touristy restaurants, where you can meet all the other people freshly off the plane or the cruiseship. And then there are some places like Chez Geneviève (central market hall of Fort-de-France, first floor, right hand side).A review of Chez Geneviève could really be very short: rum punch, starter, main course, wine, dessert, 14.50 euro, what else would one need to know? But let us be slightly less materialistic: first of all there is the atmosphere, the restaurant is on the first floor of the Fort-de-France main market where while eating one can observe people doing their daily shopping, fruit and vegetables - or all sorts of flavoured rum (and there are even some souvenir stalls). The service at Chez Geneviève is friendly and most of the time fast. However, this is not a high-end eatery, so if you are after linen tablecloths, this is the wrong place. On the other hand if you are on holiday, you might like the discount coupons on your paper place mat. While it is possible to have a main course for only 9 euro, it is really the set menu which should be recommended: punch or planters punch (or juice if you really insist), a starter, "accras" most of the time, and a main course from the board: fish, cooked or fried, octopus, chicken, accompanied by rice, red beans and various "legumes pays" (yams, bananas and such). Drinks with the main course, either wine or beer, are included and to conclude there is a choice between coffee or dessert. The menu does not vary much, but the staples are always enjoyable. I would particularly recommend the "macadam" (cod in sauce with rice) â and if this is too bland for your taste, you can always spice it up with some "piment confit".In short, there are four or five at first sight rather similar restaurants in the Fort-de-France central market, but Chez Geneviève is ahead in terms of food, service and location.

We arrived in Fort-de-France on a Saturday. We slept in late because we saw no need to rush. That was a mistake. By the time we left the ship at around 1:00 PM we saw hundreds of passengers returning. What? Why? Well, the town closes down at 1:30 on Saturdays and I mean the buildings are shuttered. We are new at this and no one told us. Nevertheless, we went up to an information kiosk and asked for the name of an authentic restaurant. She gave us the name of two on a nearby street. The first was closed. When we arrived at the Djol Dou we were given a warm welcome by the woman, perhaps owner of the restaurant. Neither of us speak French or Creole and they spoke neither English or Spanish so most verbal communication was out. She did understand that we were there for lunch and was delighted. She sat us at a table for two immediately and then we started the process of ordering some food. My wife pointed at several things and managed to order a delicious rum punch and boy did the punch have rum. Very nice. I connected to the internet and found out how to ask for a beer.We ordered lunch; one fish entree and one chicken entree. They were both very similar: a small piece of chicken leg and thigh covered in gravy; breadfruit, some other vegetable starch and rice. The fish was virtually the same. I would not call it meager pickings but it was not robust. We had a flan for dessert which was quite good. There were lots of people in the restaurant; speaking French, eating and drinking wine. When we were done we asked for the bill. It showed two entrees and the drinks for â¬65.00. I nearly fell on the floor. The entrees were â¬25.00 each. After the conversion to dollars, lunch cost us $70.00. I don't want to be so cynical as to think that I was paying a heavy tourist tax but that lunch was not worth the price by any stretch of the imagination. Caveat emptor. We will not return.

Sunday night and not many options for dinner. This place came highly recommended by our fabulous B&B hostess..Without reservations it would have taken hours to get a table, so we opted to sit at the bar, and that elevated our experience to âvery goodâ. It was fun to watch and interact with others.Everyone seemed to be having sweet potato frites (fries) so we started with them, followed by Tataki (perfectly cooked tuna â with sesame, and raw on the inside), and Marlin tartare, which was outstanding (maybe because you need to be in a place where it is fished).I donât think we needed to tip, but we did, as everyone was working hard and very polite.

Hidden up the stairs of the unattractive shopping mall La Veranda. Fair prices, good service. Original even surprising decor, fresh and colorful, a red bus as a bar, funny lights and swings ... Cuisine is also atypical. We shared Jamaican pâté and jerk chicken, conch gratin, crayfishes, Haitian griot de porc and black rice (djon djon), fried sweet potatoes. Delicious.

Ate there for lunch and had a wonderful meal of local cuisine I would particularly recommend the chicken Colombo which is a local curry type sauce with super tender chicken that's been cooked for hours. As others have mentioned Carole is extremely friendly. You should also understand that when she starts bringing you stuff, like rum punch, it's all included in the cost of the meal.

The restaurant is located on the second floor. Although the interior is questionable, the food is terrific! There is a limited menu. I loved the lobster risotto and tuna tartare. The place is quiet, the air conditioning works well and the service is laid back.Thank you have visit us and taken a while to leave us a advise. Hope you spend a good time in Martinique and see you son.

New restaurant beside the sea, pleasant staff however service was a little slow to take orders, nice ambiance, food was average but overpriced. Drinks are expensive, beers 6â¬, cocktails 10â¬, - there are restaurants that serve higher quality food, better cocktails for the same price or less.
