Reviews on Caribbean food in Gainesville, Florida, United States. Home to the University of Florida, the largest and oldest university in the state, as well as the Santa Fe Community College, Gainesville is a hub of education and culture. Perhaps due to its strong student population, the city is also at the heart of independent music in Florida, having produced numerous musical acts from a variety of genres. The natural surroundings, including parks, lakes and the adjacent Paynes Prairie State Reserve provide a green getaway from the bustle of city life.

Absolutely casual. I would say X Casual. It is no only Cuban - you find also few Venezuelan delicacies. We had tequenos and chicken arepas. Tequenos were really good, arepas only average. The donât serve alcohol. Arepas outdoor without beer, I donât think is even legal.

We had the ox tail, curry goat and boneless jerk chicken. All of the food was very tasty and our server was extremely polite. However, many of the things we tried to order were not available. Cool ambiance. Would try again in hopes of the entire menu being available.

Our family loves Bahama Breeze. We discovered one weekend when my hubby and I were visiting our kids who attend the university. Everyone was so welcoming. The food did not disappoint. Portions were so generous, the next time we went, we split a couple of entrees. Our servers have always been excellent, anticipating our every need. On the weekends they have live music outside. Canât wait to visit our kids there for another fabulous meal.

Flaco's is an excellent little Cuban bakery/eatery. The pastelito de queso is as good as you'll find anywhere. The Cuban Gator sandwich is a unique experience. Growing up in Miami, I've enjoyed dozens if not hundreds of Cuban sandwiches. Never in my life have I seen a Cuban sandwich sub out the ham for ropa vieja. Sounds ridiculous and almost sacrilegious. This is explains why the sandwich is sinfully good. Did I mention the Cuban bread is baked fresh every day? Oh, and they have tacos too. Didn't try 'em, but the folks in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying the heck out of them.
