We were thrilled to see Cathy was back. Place was updated with new lights and what not. Cathy as always was super busy but we don't mind the wait. Had a great half benny and my hubby had an enormous omelette. Prices are excellent and the food is always great. Very happy.

Heading out On the Pacific Marine Circle Route from Victoria we had breakfast in Sooke (45 minute drive). Other restaurants are suggested in travel brochures and this place should be on that list. Itâs a no frills cafe with really fresh, really great breakfast. They also serve lunch. Limited outdoor seating where dogs are allowed.

Went her and enjoyed the back patio while waiting for my husband and son to finish their zip line excursion which is right next door. The back patio area is absolutely amazing. Games space, nice tables, great service. Not once did I feel forgotten about out there and I was also made to feel welcome even though I was not eating anything. Just enjoyed a glass of wine and the ambiance. After the family showed up, we had a great meal. The service was wonderful and the menu has a great laugh in it if you are looking! Two burgers with fries and the Brie and Bacon sandwich special were ordered, everything was delicious. It is a nice stop along the road and a perfect end to the zip line line road. Thanks for the great experience to all of the staff and the owner! Love to see an owner as committed to the success of their business as the want their staff to be. He ran out the gravy order - again, great to see!

This is an awesome little gem, off the beaten path. Itâs embedded in the Becher Bay marina, an intimate little place with a great view and personality. You sit among grape vines on an open air patio, watching the pleasure and fishing boats. You absolutely MUST try the salmon spring rolls: so amazing! The calamari and seared tuna were also delicious. Highballs are $4, beer cold and refreshing, yummy homemade lemonade...

For many years my wife and I have been vacationing for 2 weeks each September in Sooke,BC (on Vancouver Island),and we can look back to many great breakfasts, lunches and dinners at " Mom's Cafe' ".But since a change in ownership, this Diner has lost something. It's hard to put a finger on it.It definitely needs a guiding hand; somebody (owner ?),who can organize and synchronize the wait- and kitchen staff. The very friendly waitresses are rushing from table to table, the kitchen is crawling with cooks, yet it takes 45min. for a hamburger or a soup to arrive, with only 4 tables occupied. Our waitress was flat out, telling newly arrived customers, that they can pick any table (even though a sign by the door says so),taking orders, serving food & drinks, cleaning up and processing credit cards. Some of these jobs, incl. taking the garbage out and the quick-cleaning of the washrooms should be done by a dedicated person,in exchange for less tables to serve. This Diner needs streamlining. Then there is the time-wasting gossiping between the waitresses and some locals.I fully understand, that a friendly exchange is all part of a Diner's ambience, but it should not interfere with the job of the waitresses.Like gossiping for 10min ++,while ready to serve meals are getting cold in the kitchen,or drying up under heat lamps. Then they always seem to run out of some menu items early.During our last visit it was their "famous Salmon Chowder" and the meatloaf. No more all-day breakfast. No more pies. Some menu items only after 4.00pm (dinner menu). The menu offers the usual Diner's fare: soups, salads, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, etc. and some lunch favourites.Food was nothing special. Just o.k. And too expensive for what you get.To my experience, buying a restaurant for investment and then leave it to the employees to run, rarely works.Parking is limited, but there is additional parking on the side streets. If you are looking for reasonably priced, freshly prepared meals,all-day breakfast and great ambience, stop at Cathy's Corner Cafe', located at the main intersection.Unfortunately only open from 6.00am to 3.00pm. See separate review.

We went to the dining room to celebrate our 50th anniversary. First, the place needs a paint job outside badly and surely, they can pave their parking lot instead of having gravel - maybe they want a rustic look bit they have not succeeded. The dining room is nicely appointed with linen and smart chairs (but they look a bit too wedding). Our server introduced herself as Jess (I think - a name "Jess" is put down as manager - but if this the same person, she needs to improve her PR and serving skills), and we saw very little of her except to take our order, bring our drinks and bring the meals, and take our dessert wishes. - she did not come back to ask how we were enjoying the meal and we did not see her at the end. Perhaps she thought we were rubes for not ordering the 3 or 4 course meals?. The other server, a man, was pretentious as he worked with another table. He did not allow the people at the table to make their own choices and then when they wished to, he told them that that is not what he would suggest, but it was their call. He talked far too much and our server did not talk enough; she knew about our anniversary and mentioneed it once at the beginning. As we left, their was no one at the front desk; and it was not our server who brought the bill. Overall, pretention rules here where prices are FAR too high

Wow. You would a half empty restaurant in the middle of the week could manage to get the food to you at least WARM, if not HOT. Or they would stop back at some point to see if the food was satisfactory. Nope. We ordered a total of four hot dishes between the two of us and got four lukewarm servings. They did not stop back during the meal, and didn't ask at the end if was OK. Bad across the board. You can do better.Hi There,Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback. I apologize for the disappointing experience you had. We did have some staff shortage that weekend and I am truly sorry that you had to suffer because of it. We are much better than that ...I promise! I hope that we get the chance to redeem ourselves next time you travel this way. Thanks again for your time.Kindly,Valerie

Route 14 is a casual Bistro/Pub style restaurant that offers a seasonal menu by Chef Ash Lenick. We offer many gluten free menu items and a full bar with 3 TV's featuring all your sports action. 6 beers on tap. Fine selection of local spirits and wines. C
We came here for dinner after being on a whale-watching tour that was about an hour longer than necessary and were feeling very disheveled and windblown. No matter. Rt 14 has a casual, pub-like atmosphere and exactly what we were looking for that night. The chicken club and fish and chips were both delicious. It seemed like a place where locals would eat that is also quite welcoming to visitors. The bar area was crowded and somewhat small so they had us go next door to the brewery to wait until a table was available for us.

Small dining room so make reservations. The food was very good. Seasoned well. My wife had some risotto dish, and I had a snapper dish. The chocolate pudding at the end was rich and delicious. Service was great.
