Things to do in Lake Cowichan
After a dip at Little Beach, in the Cowichan River, we decided to try the Riverside Pub. While seated at an umbrella table, we watched people slowly float by in the sparkling current on a variety of rented floats. I ordered the Turkey BLT without bread and it was prepared as I requested. The service was also very good. I liked how the decor inside carried the historical logging theme throughout the pub and restaurant. Even if you don't plan to sit down for a meal, come to see the large photo displays and view of the river.

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, we attended our dear friend's surprise 75th birthday party at the Riverside Inn, in Lake Cowichan. As we knew it would be a late night, we booked a room at the Riverside Inn.The party was fantastic, the staff in the pub were amazing and the room was nice. We opted for the Mother's Day Special pkg that included a bottle of champagne, two nicely wrapped chocolates, and brunch for two, the next day.Bed was comfy, slept the whole night peacefully. Woke up the next morning and saw that I had been sleeping the entire night on a brown smear that resembled feces. Not happy. The smear was not mine. I have a photo shows the smear that I slept on all night.I poured unfinished drinks into the sink in the washroom, and the contents landed straight on the floor. Piping under the sink was either disconnected or broken. Not sure which, but I laid a towel underneath to sop up the mess.Upon check out Sunday morning, I informed a kind lady from the kitchen staff about our experience and she apologized profusely. She took down our contact information and assured us that we would be contacted. By this morning (Tuesday, May 15, 2018) we still had not been contacted, and so I called the Inn and left a message. My call was returned and a voice message was left to the effect of:"The sheets were clean before you arrived, and it was chocolate on the bed. I'm really sorry, but it must have been the chocolate that we left in the room for you, and I guess that was not a good idea on our part. But, the linens were washed before you arrived, and so you must have eaten the chocolate, made a mess of it on the bed, and when you "jumped" on the bed, it smeared. I wish there was something more I could do for you."We did not eat the chocolates in the room. They were packed up and brought home. I have a second photo shows one unopened chocolate and the wrapper from the second that was opened at home. My patio area is evident in the background.I have never been treated this horribly, and I will never stay at the Riverside Inn again. It was traumatizing enough to think that I had slept on someone's feces all night long, but then to be told that the brown smear was due to our sloppy chocolate eating, followed by jumping on the bed? That really tips the scales. The manager that called and left a message saying she wished there was something more she could do for me? She's done enough. Now it's my turn. We paid a total of $182.85 (room #8) to sleep on dirty sheets that contained either feces or chocolate, that did not originate from either my partner nor I. Shame on you, Riverside Inn. I hope you enjoy my review, and I really wish there was something more I could do for you. Oh, by the way. It's not going to end here.
A simple sign "Deep Fried Ice Cream" was enough to lure us into the store. The store had more than just deep fried ice cream, it had milkshakes and floats as well :) There are also some cookies, candy and some other interesting items to sell. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and later came back for the deep fried ice cream. They have a few flavors but I ordered Death by Chocolate. The latter wasn't as oily as I thought and reminded me a bit like spring roll crust. As the fried ice cream was hot, the ice cream at the bottom melted really fast, so eat fast! They also had sample cookies ... very good!

I have never really bothered to review a fastfood type restaurant, but I felt compelled to review this one. The service we received on June 14th around 5pm was the best. Really nice server, went the extra mile to write on all the sub wrappers so that we would know whose was whose. Even my 11 year old daughter commented when we left that this was "the nicest subway we have ever been to" - I agree 100%!

After a week of camping at Gordon Bay we were in search of a good pizza. Local people directed us to Carmanah Pizza. Nice to see both husband and wife working hard in this family run restaurant. They explained that they did have staff but tonight their staff were all off. O matter, despite the steady stream of incoming customers AND telephone orders, we were served without delay. The pizza was wonderful, tasty, had a great crust and was large. Definitely going back for more. Congrats to this family for a great addition to Lake Cowichan.

Our menu is packed with classic dishes we create from scratch. Daily specials incorporate seasonal, local ingredients. From delicious appetizers to tasty salads, inspired entrees to decadent desserts, your meal will be one of a kind.
Decor is so dated. Coffee not good. No espresso available. Food nothing special. Place was practically empty at lunchtime. Found a hair under my fries. Few appealing vegetarian options. Wonât be back, which is unfortunate as we just moved to this town. This is one of two major eateries and both I recommend giving a miss. 20 minute drive to Duncan worth it for choice and quality. Câmon Cowichan Lake - you can do better!!

The options are quite limited for dinner in Lake Cowichan.Beside the Subway and the A&W, Jakes at the Lake was the obvious choice. We were the only tourists in the place with the regulars. We took the seared tuna and the swordfish skewers that were served quickly. Both fishs and their sides (coleslaw for tuna and greek salad and rice for the swordfish) were very good.Nice atmosphere and friendly service.
