Things to do in Pointe-Noire
Itâs a small restaurant hidden beside a little port. Comfortable atmosphere. The food is simple and they offer typical native meals but also burger.

We visited twice for dinner and really enjoyed our meal both times. Great inexpensive wine selection, unusual pizza toppings (try the banana, no kidding!), friendly staff. We bought a bottle to bring home only 8 Euro. Worth a stop!

This was a quality restaurant that served quality food. We had a very nice table for four overlooking the ocean. We had the tuna and marlin skewers and they were great with nice fresh fish. the presentation was also very nice. The staff was pleasant and worked with our language barrier. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was a bit more upscale for the area

Since we are staying in Pointe Noire and not inclined to drive far every day looking for our midday meal, we are checking out all the restaurants we can find here. So far Les Gommiers is the delicious best. Only downside I can note: the location is weirdly across from the local high school and on a busy street. Once we were inside, we soon forgot the hub-bub outside. The waitress welcomed us and indicated for us to find a comfortable table. We sat down and realized we'd really need to pull all of our meager French language abilities together. She had a friendly smile but no English. The diners around us were digging into fragrant-smelling and savory-looking plates of fish and meat. We were hooked. We managed to order salads, a fish grill, and the chef's specialty hamburger plate. We loved it all. The salad nicoise was well-presented and dressed just right. The fish grill, dorado we think it was, arrived steaming and tender with a side of creole rice and another side of christophine--a local vegetable you must try. The hamburger plate came with a small side salad, hot and crisp frites, and a large medium-rare hamburger on a homemade bun, with a fried egg and lardons, lettuce, tomato, and dressing. We sat there quietly making yummy sounds as we worked across our plates--a very satisfying meal.I also need to give a special mention to the bathrooms at Les Gommiers. I travel as much as I can and try to be accepting and forgiving of local plumbing and sewage challenges. I always carry a bit of my own toilet paper and, in the spirit of adventure and cross-cultural understanding, I know toilet facilities are often not up to my privileged and likely-snooty American standards. That said, it was a distinct pleasure to comfortably use the bathroom at Les Gommiers. The toilet was clean, had a seat, and flushed easily. The sink worked, there was toilet paper and soap and everything was sparkling clean--five stars!
