Things to do in Yufu
In daytime, this restaurant is a nice café, which serves delicious local dishes and at night it is changed to a cool, refined bar. You can watch a forest scene from the large window and it makes you a peaceful mood. After enjoying wonderful hot spring baths, if you want to do something special with your friends and family, I recommend you going there. The barkeeper is gentle to tourists. It has a plentiful stock of alcoholic drinks and price is not expensive. Little bit far from the streets, but the atmosphere will be to your liking.

Stumbled upon this place while wandering around Lake Kinrin. While not very difficult to find, it is not in the main touristy area, so us stumbling in here was a bit of a stroke of luck. They're behind a few buildings but look for the big letters CARAVAN.Caravan is a classically designed warm and comfortable cafe. While I often prefer contemporary styling, I found this place's old fashioned rustic wood style very nice. There's a cute garden outside the shop as well filled with decorations the owners have acquired over the years. The tables are made of beautiful pieces of wood, and the order counter is filled with coffee equipment. One section of the shop is actually a porcelain/decorations store where you can buy souvenirs. The ceiling is lined with aged coffee grinders and brewers. The owners (a couple) are clearly passionate about their coffee and wares, as we watched them constantly switching between picking and cleaning beans, inspecting cups, and tending to the garden. We ordered a cafe latte and a drip Mandheling. Great coffee. Menus were in Japanese, but I think English will work in communication. It appears they serve some food as well though we didn't order. The tables also feature little notebooks where you can leave a message. There was a local on another table as well relaxing on his computer.Caravan was a very pleasant discovery in Yufu and a really nice cup--recommend it if you find yourself fatigued in the area.
We came here twice during our stay in Yufuin. Their hot cocoa and chocolate platters are really good. The cafe is quite isolated up on a hill so on both occasions that we were there weren't many customers. This was great for us but maybe not so great for them. Their store in the city (B-Speak) has plenty of business though so I guess they need not worry. Anyway, its a beautiful cafe, the ambiance here is really nice and the lack of customers made it feel very private and cozy. We had a great time here.

You wouldn't stumble across this place, as it's just removed from the picturesque main route through Yufuin's main tourist drag, in a slightly less salubrious location on a road. Don't let that put you off. This place specialises in latte art - chilled or hot drinks. At 600 yen for a latte drink (there are cheaper options if you're not interested) it's also very reasonable. The owners were exceedingly friendly, talking me through the construction of the most beautiful (and delicious) drink I've ever had! Using matcha powder from Kyoto, chilled over ice, with different coloured syrups, the process took about ten minutes to create a beautiful 3D coloured latte art. My boyfriend's Totoro was an absolute work of art too!Recommended for a tea or coffee stop in Yufuin.

由布院駅から麒麟湖までつづく湯の坪街道を歩いて麒麟湖へ向かって歩き途中右へ曲がって歩くと由布院の老舗旅館玉の湯がやっている喫茶店
Small quaint shop and has variety of donuts. Also has good coffee and nice music to sit for relaxation. We tried the chocolate donuts which is pretty good.

I know I know, Snoopy is HILARIOUS and what better than a Snoopy themed cafe? You know what's not hilarious? Poor quality food. Japan has excellent food with a very high average quality. This place manages to execute it's menu way below that quality level - seriously, who designed the menu?Main was a hamburger patty, rice (pink for some reason), omelette and random western vegetables. It was surrounded by what I think was an attempt at gravy. The whole thing was bland, poorly thought out and pointless. Prices were high (1600 yen for the set described above, including tasty miso and salad).Staff were lovely, hence 2/5.Please find somewhere else if you want good food.

Nice cosy ambience and coffee. Cakes were not bad - had a good fig compote which was a seasonal special. Cafe was playing Gregorian chants in the background which was a little eerie. Would be great if it had a view of the lake which is a 1 min walk away.
