I had breakfasted at Somewhere in Time, the sister restaurant of When Pigs Fly located on the Goldstar Highway in or near Groton. It was excellent each time I'd been there. This trip, I am staying in Waterford, CT where When Pigs Fly is located. I had to try it. Like the first place, you get your own coffee from the variety they offer. Grab a mug and pour your own. I had the organic dark roast which was very good. Then you sit and order from a virtually identical menu (one item is different from Somwhere in Time). The servers share tips and it appears each tries hard to hold up their end of it. They're friendly, efficient, remember you, and seem genuinely sincere in their "Welcome back"!There are other places in the area that specialize in breakfast. I've tried several including Sweeties in New London and The Shack in Waterford. The food at each is good. But, the overall experience at When Pigs Fly and Somewhere in Time was better for me than the other places. Prices are pretty much the same at all of them.

We had a very enjoyable lunch. They had many good options- sandwiches, crepes, salads, bagels, breakfast items, coffee, cold drinks, smoothies and desserts. I had the Spinach Salad- with strawberries, blueberries, Mandarin oranges, sliced almonds, tomatoes and goat cheese with pomegranate vinaigrette. My husband had smoked salad crepe - with cream cheese, capers and fresh baby spinach. We both enjoyed our food. Everything was fresh and tasty. In addition we shared an everything bagel with butter and I had decaf coffee(serve very good coffee). We also had very good service.

This place is not a "bakery", more like going into your moms for breakfast. Service was very good. You really don't feel like your at a restaurant. Large menu with many choices. I was let down that they mix in sweet potatoes into their homefries but don't actually list that. They don't have regular rye toast either. $25 for 2 people for breakfast was a bit much IMO. I then purchased a small dessert cookie and it was $5! I loved the atmosphere and such but a bit rich for my blood.
