Things to do in Tonga
The Hideaway is Tongas ONLY floating bar and restaurant. We serve fresh Fish & Chips caught by local fisherman and serve the best Margaritas on the Island made with fresh squeezed Kola (a lemon/lime fruit) that grows right here in Vava'u. Some come on out
We stopped at the hideaway on Sept. 10th, 2019. The co owner, char, of the hideaway choked and tackled my wife. We were having a conversation. Char lunged at my wife, who was sitting in a chair across from her. She wrapped her hands around her throat and tackled her. My wife now has bruises all over her body from charâs hands and hitting the deck during the attack. We left immediately and have reported the incident to the police. I would recommend staying away from this establishment for your own safety. This is not true. If you would like to come talk to me you know where I am.
Offering a more relaxed fresh grill style menu Fresh Bar and Grill operates for both lunch and dinner. Light snacks through to full meals are available.
Located in the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel, the Fresh Bar & Grill provides a variety of meals. We ate four meals there and were pleased with all of them. Everything from light snacks through to full meals are available. The service was a little slow (remember Island Time), but all the servers were very friendly. Overall, we were pleased with our meals at the Fresh.
We sell inhouse cured hams, our own Canadian back bacon, and we make sausage. Along with a list of precooked meals that you thaw and heat. These are great for day tripping as well as yacht provisions. Pre order to garrentee your request and it will be pack
We visited this Vava'u newcomer today for lunch and were very satisfied! We tried their thinly sliced cured ham with fried egg and cream cheese on Canadian bannock buns. We were even more impressed with their pigs in a blanket. This included their new spicy chorizo with home-made chilli sauce, accompanied by handmade lemonade - total win! We also got some maple cured bacon to take back to our resort to tart up breakfast tomorrow because we're getting a bit bored with scrambled eggs. Would happily return - friendly Canadian proprietors & a (nice) dog called Killer.

probably the best restaurant in town. I was recommended by the airport taxi driver and I fully agreed. I chose a local fish dish marinated in coconut milk with local vegetables and a juice. Excellent and inexpensive price. I payed: 4 ⬠for the total bill.

This place is low key from the outside. It's on the corner of Wellington and Tu'i roads. We came for dinner and had a home made burger and bun with avocado and sprouts, and a chicken fajita. Both were really excellent and fresh. You can tell the owner has made a real effort to create a nice ambience here - just needs a few more people to reward all her efforts!Bring your own wine, as they don't have alcohol.

This delightful little cafe has been around for some time now. The current proprietor having persevered for around twelve years. A charming lady by the name of Magna. She is industrious, delightful and enterprising, prepared to take time interacting with her clientele and helping them to assimilate into the Ha'apai experience. To satisfy the bodily needs there is a range of very nice cold drinks. Homemade lemonade, fresh coconut, draught beers on tap, bottled beer and soft drinks from the fridge plus of course good coffee.Magna keeps her own pigs, cures her own hams and bacon, grows many fruits and vegetables and is very ethically minded when selecting ingredients for her very tasty healthy dishes. Dare I say entering a fine dining experience. Her dishes are superb and well worth going through the whole menu should one have time.Needless to say this is the hub where visitors should aim for, they will assemble the latest information and get a sense of position and the feeling of the town before heading to their places of accommodation. The town of Pangai in Ha'apai would not be the easy place it is for getting one's bearings and orientation we're it's not for this wonderful cafe which for years has proved to be such a home away from home to visitors and residents alike.Ha'apai and Mariner's Cafe are jewels in the Pacific Experience not to be missed.
