Have been going here for years. The boss just will not smile or be friendly. Drives me nuts. Very cool wee bar otherwise. Very busy late on a Saturday night, all the rugby lads and young ones come out. Younger people definatley seem more valued than those aged say 30 plus. Certainly get served quicker at the bar too!!
What a great place to go when you need a quick fix for morning tea. Sandwiches made fresh and to order if you like. Hot food of all types to take away and service that can not be faulted. Go in, get served, off out the door in a quick turnaround by a very friendly staff member.

Casual Cafe dining in the countryside. Perfect for families and just relaxing. A great selection of cabinet food refreshed daily including salads, Gluten Free and vegetarian options including a fully licenced bar. Would you like to get married here? or ho
We have been to Harlau House twice since it opened. The location is pretty hard to beat, large and open country space but still so close to town. Peaceful and relaxing. The first visit we had breakfast - creamy mushrooms and a cabinet item. Both came out in good time and were tasty and good portion size. Excellent value for money. The second time I came later in the afternoon and we were the only people. Had a scone (or cheese puff) and a peppermint slice. Again, they nailed the food. Staff were lovely but did forget my scone on the pass till I went and reminded them ;). That kind of thing happens though! I do think menus would be great, the blackboard is a wee bit hard to read. Overall this place is great, a completely different experience than other Timaru cafes in all the right ways.Thank you so much for your lovely review. My apologies for the late reply, however in case you did'nt know, we now have a fully licenced bar with more beverage choices. Thanks again.
Fairs fairs, they had not been in business long when we visited BUT there was nothing that would make me want to keep coming back. Coffee was ok. Food a tad on the over priced side considering what was on offer. On the positive side it was bright and sunny inside. I think they need something special to capture more of the café market. With BP just over the road it is a big ask.
Always meet friends here for breakfast. Good service, great coffee, excellent cup of tea and great value for money. The Brea last menu has plenty of choice or you can ask to have it tailored to your requirements.

This is a busy little place, but it lacks ambience. The food was really good well cooked, itâs more of a home style food. By simply changing the bread used (they have a supermarket bakery next door) this would have elevated the brunch to the next level.

Food rather basic and our savoury not even hot, coffee was not the best either. Okay I guess for a quick snack but chairs are hard and no atmosphere either and quite pricey some of the food range

We dined for breakfast and found the pricing very good, there appeared to be plenty of options to cater for GF, DF, Paleo and Keto and the coffee was fantastic, they were also happy to change things a bit for my 4 yr old. Very happy with our breakfast.
