A sexy eatery in the heart of Somerset West. Your crossover between business & social. Food|Wine & A Mighty Good Time.
Fred & Max has, unfortunately, changed hands. Neither of the two original owners are involved in the establishment anymore and it is very obvious that this is the case. A friend and I had breakfast at Fred & Max last week. I cannot complain about the food at all - we both had a breakfast bowl and it is difficult to get muesli, yogurt and fruit wrong. However, the service was extremely slow. Now, as Capetonians we are used to a more laid back approach to life, but the service was so slow that I was afraid that we may still be at the restaurant when Christmas rolled by! The competition in Somerset West in this market segment is getting tougher by the day, so I hope that the new owners can sort out the service issue, otherwise they will find that regular visitors may go elsewhere.
An authentic Southern African Social Cafe and eatery serving flavorsome traditional Southern African cuisine. True Cafe Culture, Craft, Coffee & Comfort food.
Ne Social Cafe is a good spot to grab a quick breakfast, lunch or just a coffee. The food and service were good. They had a few interesting dishes on their menu that I would still love to try.
A little gem of a coffee shop in the heart of Strand. Once a dream, now a reality for (slightly coffee addicted) owners Jaenne-Mare and her hubby Moose. It's small, cozy and features homemade brownies, blondies, lemon poppy seed and cranberry bran muffins
This little perky restaurant / coffee shop is seriously winging it in a very competitive industry. Their coffee is delicious and the service is impeccable. Their breakfasts are divine and they deliver if you work close-by. Overall GREAT experience.

We popped in to the centre to pick up some water and we were pleased to see this Restaurant that serves patrons both inside and outside (in the mall). We ordered two Tall Cappuccinos and we were not disappointed. An opportunity to see the Somerset West Shoppers out and about.
Vida pioneered the way to bring that authentic European espresso bar culture, infused with that unique energetic African flavour to Strand.
The coffee and snacks here are the standard Vida offering but the staff are really outstanding - very pleasant, always smiling with a great attitude.
I was actually on my way to nearby Pajamas and Jam cafe but they were closed and, desperate for a good coffee, ended up at the Coat Rack. This is your little neighbourhood breakfast/lunch place, with a lovely small menu but offering plenty of choices, and unbeatable prices. Great coffee, great breakfast, unassuming but definitely worth a try!

Pop in for quick a Coffee and Cake specialReally wanted to experience the vibe and support the localsExperience was a bit disappointedCoffee was okCake portion was small and variety - only 2 to choose fromCake was not bake in house although sourced from reputable alternativeService was okGood Afternoon, Thank you for your valuable feedback. We acknowledge your comments, however, we do advertise as a breakfast and brunch establishment, we are not a cake shop, we also sadly do not have the facilities to enable us to bake our own goods and therefore do rely on alternative suppliers to supply us with yummy bakes goods that we can cater for our clients needs, the demand for cake is not that much so its not profitable for us to keep more than 2 cakes at a time without the risk of it going off and our policy is fresh food!!I would encourage you to pop in for a breakfast when you are next in the area, I am certain you will not be disappointed. Thanks once again for your valuable input.

Cosy indoors with a small outdoor seating area, which although it is adjacent to the car park is nicely screened off with plants. There is a good selection of food for breakfast, brunch and snacks with a wide choice of cool drinks, teas and coffees. The food comes freshly cooked and the service is delightful.Hi Chris. Your review makes my sing. Great food, the best service and a warm and friendly environment is what we continually strive to provide. I cannot say this enough about my waitresses but we have the BEST there is.As for my ladies in the kitchen....phew...just amazing! Thanks again for your delightful review.

They know their regulars of which there are many and new customers are welcomed into the family. The menu is not too elaborate, but quite varied enough for different tastes. The fair ranges from freshly baked bran mujffins and scones (with ample servings of cheese, jams and cream) to lemon merrange tarts to a weekly lunch menu which gives a different meat dish daily accompanied by chips (baked potatoe) and veggies. The prices are more than reasonable giving a sense of value for your money and pensioner friendly. The ambience is homely but elegant with a lovely unobstructed view of False Bay. A worthwhile visit for families and pensioners alike!

Been to JJ's twice to catch up with some girlfriends - Saturday afternoon on the spur of the moment type of decision. We received friendly service and the prices are reasonable. We have always just had coffee and cake type of food at JJ's. It is always tasty and feel content after sharing some time with friends over a cup of coffee. You can sit inside or outside and it is across the road from the beach, so also some lovely views.
