Take in the atmosphere of the old fruit store in the Walled Garden Restaurant or eat outside in the courtyard, surrounded by specimen trees, topiary, water features and garden sculptures. A daily-changing menu full of warming main courses made with local
Recently travelled to this garden centre/cafe after getting a recommendation from someone. It's not exactly local, but thought we'd give it a try. Garden center itself is great, but have a very disappointing visit to the cafe after not being able to order food as they had run out of bread. They don't have the biggest menu on a Sunday (can't comment on other days as only been on a Sunday) so choices are very limited. Didn't want a meal and really the only other thing was a sandwich. Unfortunately they had run out of bread. Backup plan was a jacket potato, but that was also out.. as was one of the main meals. Seeing as it's a very limited menu, that was a good amount of the menu unavailable. Hadn't eaten thus far that day, so didn't want anything sweet. So, was left hungry. Was 4pm by the time we got home and as you can imagine, quite hungry at that point.Shan't be making the trip to try again.Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit. Our Sunday lunches have become very popular, so we tend to focus on serving delicious roasts on a Sunday in order to keep waste to a minimum. We would like to tempt you back so you can try something else from our menu, so if you would like to get in touch with our manager at [email protected], he will make sure you are well looked after.
A small cafe with a small play area, best for pre-school kids. The food was very nice and not too expensive especially compared to other cafes in Sherborne and you can buy craft kits for your kids to do while there or for birthday parties.

sloppy service....had to repeatedly get up from the table to ask for cutlery, to chase drinks we ordered etc. coffee's were instant/sachet type and tasted pretty awful - and were served in disney character mugs (!?) which were grubby. my boyfriends mum ordered vegetarian chilli - was given beef chilli. my boyfriend found hair in his food - when he made the staff aware they didn't offer anything alternative or even apologise, just started questioning/doubting what he'd found as though they didn't believe him. we passed a few other lovely looking cafè/tea rooms and such a shame we didn't go to one of those instead. won't be back!

We are a Cafe, Gallery and quality gift shop with comfortable seating, including sofas and armchairs, and a woodburner in the winter. The cafe serves fresh coffee served by barista trained staff, homemade cakes, homemade cream teas and delicious light lun
We went there on a miserable rainy afternoon for a coffee and bite. We were greeted very enthusiastically by Sarah, the proprietor and her able assistant. We ordered coffee and I had a delicious Americano and my wife, a latte. She had a quiche, cous cous and salad and I had a brie and cranberry toasted sandwich with really good fresh salad garnish and crisps. The service was exemplary and friendly throughout and while awaiting our meal we were able to look at the various items in the gallery. It is full of good quality art works, fabrics and textile items and everywhere there are books and magazines to browse and there is an unhurried atmosphere that makes you wish to stay. So much so, we had another coffee and I had a piece of the lightest coffee sponge cake that one could imagine. My wife had a piece of chocolate cake. The cakes were sensational and are home made. This place is well worth going to off the beaten track (A37 Dorchester to Yeovil Road) and you will not regret it. Put simply, excellent !

Found near the bottom of Cheap Street in Sherborne (a couple of doors down from Abbey Bookshop). First time in Kafe Fontana and will not be my last. Small cafe with outside seating too. Nice relaxing atmosphere inside and pleasant attentive staff. Vases of fresh flowers on the tables - nice touch.Menu had a good choice and honest prices - cream teas at £4.00 (will definitely need to return again to try one!) A lovely cabinet full of sweet treats at the counter too. Coffee was very good, hubby enjoyed it.Definitely recommend.
