We decided to climb the Kotohiragu from the 500th steps. Thus, we parked our car at the free parking lot of this restaurant, take a delicious ice-cream and local fruit juice, then kick-off our hiking up the Kotohiragu. Ice-cream is fantastic and the view from restaurant is nice.

Cafe Umie has been around more than a decade. I've been visiting since 2004 and always enjoyed the slightly eccentric decor, the reasonable coffee, the ability to order a small meal, and the nice scones. While not exceptional at any one thing it is very good at many and it's a nice place to chill out with friends. For food, try the curry or the chicken bagel. For a treat go for the scones. For coffee? I usually just get a plain hot or cold. You can find alcohol too if that's the aim.

Tucked away down a little laneway, this cafe is a must if you visit Naoshima. The table settings are all unique styles - some with floor seating, others with chairs - that blend together to make a very cool, quaint, yet warm dinning experience. We ate the standard rice curry and also one topped with an omelette. They were simply scrumptious!
