Seriously? I'm not sure if I visited the same Carmie's Kitchen as everybody else. I do not usually write reviews unless the experience was extremely delighted or disappointed. We went there for lunch on Boxing Day after a 2-night stay on Phillip Island, the experience was..interesting and we really should have visited other restaurant instead. Carmie's has a relatively short menu: chicken burger, steak sandwich, fried chicken on rice, pork in black bean source on rice, and one more item which I can't remember. That's all. It was around 1pm, there were 4 customers in the cafe. We ordered a chicken burger, a steak sandwich and a fried chicken meal for kid. It took around 40 mins before the meals can be served and when other fellow customers asked why such a long wait, the waitress claimed to be 'Very busy'. Another couple came before us also ordered a burger, when the burger was served, I saw the disappointment from his facial expression. the burger was relatively thinner compared to anyone's expectation I guess. When our meals were served, it proved my observation, burger is really thin and tasteless, steak sandwich was over cooked and even the bread was fell apart, oh and no sauce in burger or sandwich. Both my wife and I did not finish the meals, the kid did maybe his fried chicken meal was much better? The waitress was friendly but kitchen staff was not very professional, eating and shouting whilst preparing meals for customers. I'd share my observations with other people here, Hopefully this could help someone. I'd avoid this place completely.
Usually the locals hang outs are the best but to me this is sailing along on reputation and although we are pretty local we didn't get whatever the vibe is. The coffee was reasonable and the food ok. I have no idea why the locals come here and they certainly do so there is something going for it. Perhaps the locals like it because it's at the quiet end of town and you won't be bothered by the tourists. It's not for me to guess but two visits was enough for me to head back down into busy San Remo for what I consider to be better coffee and food. Maybe I'm just picky but it's not for me.

We were surprised by the quality of this café. We arrived at 11.45am and realised most of the events are scheduled from 1-4pm. As it was a cold and rainy day, we sat down for lunch at this café before heading out. The café was warm and cozy. Our favourites were the cheese board and scones with Devonshire tea. Coffees were not bad either.

The General Store is always crowded which tells you how popular it is. Kilcunda is a delightful little village with magnificent coastal vistas. Some of this view can be captured from the tables on the front deck. On hot or wet days it is also possible to sit inside of in the leafy garden out the back. The menu is fairly simple, but the food is tasty and wholesome. Local wares and produce are on sale and the whole setting is comfortable and laidback. A popular spot!
