Watts Coffee House is near the Watts Towers. If you are on vacation in Los Angeles, and have a rental car, first you will go see the Towers because a guy named Simon built them for you and he wants you to see them (Simon died long ago). After you must go to Watts Coffee House, a family run diner which has the best soul food you will ever have in your life, unless your grandma is still cooking and happens to make soul food.Everything is good. There is not one thing that is not fresh and tasty and wonderful--not one thing.Locals go there and tourists are welcomed with open arms. The owners are kind and the prices are so reasonable and the place is filled with history. It is on the walls, it is the building, it is everything.Get whatever you want, because it is all too good for me to say this one thing is the best, it is all the best. They have fried chicken, they have pork chops, they have greens, they have waffles, they have everything you want and more. Please go there. They close around 3 pm so call first to make sure they are open and what time they are closing. And again, you are welcome. :)

If you feel assaulted by corporate restaurants and color design consultants and frozen food prepared 3 states away and shipped to be warmed or microwaved, then Pop's Cafe is a great alternative. This is how all small restaurants used to be before they were owned by financial conglomerates. While I ate there, I didn't ask to meet "Pop's," but I'm pretty sure there must be one. If not now, then at one time. This place is small and there might be a wait on weekend days, but it's worth it. This is food prepared to taste good and not just to fill one's stomach. The day I was there I was craving oatmeal with a side of sausage and that's what I got. But, I was looking at the other conventional breakfasts going by and saw that they were looking excellent. This is a place not to be missed. Make a special trip to go there if you are in the neighborhood.
This is popular shop with customers coming in and out. On a Sunday afternoon it was difficult to find a parking spot in this strip mall. I stopped by to try the ham, cheese, and jalapeño croissant and a strawberry pastry. The pastries were both fresh but I wish the croissant was spicy hot and not mild.
