I have visited the GBH on 3 occasions now and always suggest it to friends who visit us in gatehouse. We visited on a Saturday night and had to push our reservation back an hour which the staff were happy to do despite the restaurant being very busy. We all enjoyed our food. The burgers were exceptional and cooked to perfection. We also had just enough room for dessert. The pecan pie was delightful. All reasonably priced and competitive. The staff were friendly as always. We even bought some preserves and sauces from the shop!

We were "out for drive" on a wet Saturday.. actually to Castle Douglas... but could find NOWHERE suitable there to have lunch. We meandered toward Kircudbright and passed thru Dundrennan.. I was about to say, "We'll get nothing here" when we came across the Crown and Anchor. WHAT A MARVELLOUS FIND. The food was home cooked and very well presented and served quickly, ( and the place was busy). The surrounding were spotless and beautifully cared for. The proprietors were very welcoming and friendly. We opted for the toasted sandwiches which were superbly cooked and presented, and tea/coffee ( free refills - were offered)If you live locally.. please support this little gem of a place... if you don't go and search it out. WE will be back. If I could give them 7 of of 5 I would. PS we didn't have room for cake.. but they looked superb.

Situated beside the main A75, just outside the village of Ringford and some 3 miles inland from the artists town of Kirkcudbright. The restaurant is in what was the local primary and junior school for the village and surrounding area and closed in 1977. O

One of the best chippies around with a fabulous range of food. Clean, friendly service, reasonable prices and the food was terrific. Sit-in or takeaway - you might need to book a table in the evening as very popular.

Spent the morning at the cookery school watching a demo by Parveen the spice queen on cooking several different Indian dishes. A morning well spent. Nick has the demo room well set up so that you can see what's happening. Parveen was lovely, picked up lots of tips. The cookery class rooms are well equipped and include a wind down work surface for anyone with a disability.

The Belfry Cafe is now permanently closed. Thank you to everyone who visited over the past five years.
Cafe is nothing special however they do allow dogs in, next to the front door or outside. Had soup and sandwich deal; cauliflower soup was ok but bread on egg sandwich was yesterdayâs bread. Tables all had a plastic sheet over. There are better options in town, however staff were friendly enough.

Having been out for day popped into Mulberries for a coffee and a scone alas itâs so popular you have to be early to manage to have them.So ended up with a piece of âShortbread &Coffeeâ the shortbread was brilliant and good value for money. The staff and cleanliness and everything about this place you couldnât fault. Our intended coffee stop, in New Galloway, was closed and we carried on to Kirkcudbright for our stop. We were not disappointed. It being good weather, we sat outside in the sheltered courtyard. Order was taken fairly quickly and the food and drinks arrived shortly after. Lovely cakes and coffees.Staff were efficient and friendly. We asked for directions to Broughton House and were directed by the best route.I would recommend this tearoom for tea/coffee and cakes. I believe they do lunches too but that was not on our agenda on this trip, perhaps next time.
