My husband and I tried Durga's for the first time this past week. We don't frequent organic restaurants because they tend to have limited menus and high prices. Durgas Divine Cafe fits that mold, but the food they served us was pretty good, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We'd wanted to order breakfast, but the breakfast offerings were limited. So instead, I ordered a daily special -- a Farmhouse bowl that came with strips of turkey, quinoa, tomatoes, peas and greens, served with a nice light creamy orange dressing. The peas and tomatoes seemed like they'd been stored at too cold of a temperature, but overall the food was fresh-tasting and a nice healthy meal on a hot day. My husband ordered a turkey club sandwich, which he said was good, although he did ask me if he could dip the sandwich in some of my salad dressing to flavor it up. His meal came with a side of tortilla chips and housemade salsa. I had a glass of their freshly-brewed black iced tea, which was refreshing. My husband had wanted a diet cola, but they don't have any diet sodas. For him, this was kind of a show-stopper, though not surprising. We haven't been to many organic restaurants that offer Diet Pepsi. He ordered a glass of housemade lemonade which was sweetened with cane syrup. It was good, but he'd have preferred a sugar-free alternative. You place your order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. The interior was pleasantly decorated and clean, with Reggae music softly playing in the background. They also have a nice patio area which is dog-friendly.Our bill before the tip was on the order of $36, which is as much as we'd pay for breakfast plus tip at one of several sit-down breakfast places in town. So we probably won't come back here soon. But we enjoyed our food and are glad that we took the time to try this place.

We stopped in for fortifications before heading to nearby Bridgeport to hike around the Yuba River. There is a display case with a variety of pre-made (but fresh!) sandwiches and wraps, as well as burritos, quiche and fritatta portions that can be heated up. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available. All of the products, including the bread, are homemade from scratch. I had a turkey and cheese sandwich on foccacia, which was very goo, a generous amount of diestel (a highly rated producer) turkey and what tasted like havarti cheese slices. The focaccia was a little thick for my liking, although some people probably like that; in the future I would select a wrap. My wife had egg salad on whole wheat and thought it was very good also. They sell their home-made soup by the pint or quart, including frozen containers to take home, and you an buy loaves of their bread to take home. Service was a little chaotic- a coule of women were taking turns using the register, and the one who ran my debit card ran off to do something else while it was processing. I wound up reaching over the counter and getting my own receipt, which I hope didn;t cause any problems.Nice mural of the canals of Venice wrapping around 2 of the walls.

After driving pas this place for way too many years we finally managed to stop for breakfast. Run by a couple, Doug & Terri Perry, it caters to locals. Ordered a Bacon & Cheese Omelet, menu said it was made with 4 eggs. It lived up to it's billing. The thing was a monster. My less ambitious friend said he's ask for a half omelet next time. He felt over stuffed. Omelet was properly done with good ingredients. Most of the week this is a breakfast-lunch place, Weekends they also serve dinner in a fancier dining room. I'll have to come back at dinner time & see if the food is as good as the menu indicates.

The location may work for the theater crowd, but I can't see this as a viable long-term operation, as the selection of pastries or other foods of any kind is very limited. Coffee selection other than espresso drinks seems fairly small as well. Quaint atmosphere. They need to expand the menu and add more flavors or brews of coffee.

There are few organic dining spots in the Grass Valley-Nevada City area. We decided to stop at Valentina's for breakfast to check it out. The menu is limited. We ordered an oatmeal with fruit-very good, a cheese and sausage quesadilla-yummy, and a cheese omelette-made in a waffle maker and a bit over done. The limited breakfast menu has a Mexican flavor. The place is very friendly and had a number of regulars that morning. We will be back, though not for the cheese omelette.

If you blink you may miss this little spot in downtown Grass Valley. We find that the food is usually well prepared and tasty, with a definite "home-style" feel. The atmosphere is very basic and dated, but always clean. The service is entirely dependent on the staff present at the time and can be less than stellar. Worth a stop if you are in the immediate area and want something close. Not worth a trip downtown for a meal.
