Heard from acquaintances about the Topaz Lodge and restaurant , as well as their "world famous burgers", and where every booth has a view of Topaz Lake, so decided to check it out for ourselves. Made motel reservations online without incident. Arrived at property, but confused upon entering one of several parking areas, exactly where best entrance is to access reservation desk in order to check in. No external instructions posted, so just parked and searched it out ourselves via numerous hotel entrances. Once inside, there is lack of signage for directions. Finally located reservation desk and checked in without incident...reps were very professional and helpful on check in and check out. This is older property with several "room wings" and it is kind of confusing to figure out exactly where your room is without getting directions from from front desk, so be sure to do that upon check in. Motel room "wings" each have three stories and seems most rooms do face Topaz Lake for a view of some kind.Room was as advertised, everything worked for us. Not the cleanest of motel rooms we have stayed in, and this property needs some upgrading and attention IMO, it's age and continued usage is showing. Bed was OK, but not the most comfortable I have had. We had adequate towels, sheets were clean, and we got a good nights sleep...not much noise heard from nearby Hwy 395, which was a pleasent surprise considering this place is so close to the busy highway. There is an attached coffee shop/restaurant we had dinner in, trying their recommended "world famous cheeseburgers with fries. Well, neither of us were impressed with the food our friends touted as something extraordinary...the "specialty' of the "world famous hamburger" was simply an added slice of ham..which I don't necessarily care for on my burgers anyway. It was good for what it was but I have had comparable or even better at several other places so I am not sure what the hoopla is about. We were disappointed with that but that was the fault of listening to our friends, and not the restaurants. We did have breakfast here the next morning after check out and it was very good. Wait staff very efficient and courteous.Grounds are well maintained. There is a very large, 24 hr ,Chevron gas station also adjacent, with a fairly large convenience store inside with souvenirs, snacks, etc that was nice to have for any last minute items or replacing things you need and may have forgotten. All in all we would stay here again if in the area. There is a Best Western about a mile east we thought we may consider staying at on a future visit, just to compare, but it appears to not be operating when we last drove by on our way to Reno in October 2018.So, if you are visiting Topaz Lake area and need a motel, this is the only game in "town", for now anyway....I have been to worse, but I have also been to better for a place to advertise itself as not only a motel but a "resort"...the "resort" part is definitely applied to Topaz Lake, and not this property.Gardenerville, NV is about 25 mi farther east with numerous accomodations to consider.

This place is amazing! I can't seem to step away from ordering the K2 sandwich, it is amazing. Lots of gluten free options, including sandwiches! Side salad is delicious too. Be sure to try the blended thai tea! Heads up, closes early and not open for dinner.

Small town, family run restaurant. People you don't know smile and say "Good Morning" and "How are you"? Patrons dining alone sit up along the bar and chat with each other. Food is delicious and plentiful. Had the Huevos Rancheros today and couldn't finish my breakfast, just like every other time I have had breakfast here. Restaurants like this seem to be fewer and fewer - and this one is a gem!

We're local and meet friends here for lunch every Tuesday. This has been our custom for the last two-plus years and we've never had anything that wasn't outstanding. You know you're a regular when Renee knows what you're going to have as soon as you walk in the door! It's your typical small airport cafe with a good menu, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. We could easily go somewhere else, but we keep coming back... that should tell you how good it is!
