Find out what Cafe restaurants to try in Faro. Faro is the best-known city in Portugal’s deservedly famous Algarve region. There’s an archaeological museum and a “Bishops’ Palace,” a Renaissance cathedral that was heavily bombed during World War II, but later rebuilt. Nearby in Estoi are Roman ruins, and Albufeira, also nearby, is a formerly quaint fishing village influenced by the Moors in the 8th century. It’s situated in a cliffside location, and has become famous for its beaches (there are 20) and nightlife.

I decided to take a short day trip to Estoi to view the Roman ruins and explore the city. While exploring, I came across a small restaurant with outdoor seating that seemed to have quite a few locals. It advertised traditional foods were its specialty, and being Portuguese, I thought I would give it a try. The chicken with tomatoes was heavenly and tasted like it came from my grandmothers kitchen. I closed my eyes and could picture her serving it to me when I was a child. It is located in the church square. Highly recommended!

Found this very attractive restaurant by chance as we looked for Faro old town. Although you can sit outside thereâs an absolutely beautiful dining room inside. The waiters are extremely helpful and polite. Our party of four enjoyed fried prawns and seared tuna. The almond and chocolate cakes were tremendous. And the waiter presented our table with complementary after lunch port. The bill with beers and four glasses of wine came to less than 20 Euro a head.

After enjoying a coffee here in the afternoon (watching the football) we came back for dinner. We ordered the tuna with onions and braised pork. Both were served with vegetables and were quite sizeable. Despite the menu advising that the tuna could take 30 minutes, it was served within 20 minutes, and was extremely good. The local red wine was also very good as were the prices. If you go round the back, there are tables outside in a very pleasant square.
