The menu choice seemed good but when the food and drinks came they weren't startling, didn't make them stand out from anywhere else. The staff seemed flapped and it wasn't really busy.

We have drove past The Kilnford Farm Shop a few times and noticed how busy it always seemed to be. Last week we decided to pop in for lunch and try it out.We found the premises to be spotless and the Restaurant itself was very nicely decorated and had a homely feel about it. My wife and I both chose mushroom soup and a coronation chicken sandwich in bloomer bread. I can honestly say the soup was delicious and the sandwich was jam packed with chicken and for £6, it certainly offers great value for money. The Farm Shop itself is worth a visit and we bought two steak and black pudding pies. We have already ate them at home and they were very nice. We recommend the Kilnford Farm Shop and will certainly be back to visit it ourselves in the not to distant future.

Having read some articles in local media we decided to visit whilst waiting on our car to be serviced. What a surprise, truly full marks on all counts. The building itself has been renovated sympathetically with a lot of the features of the church still prominent. It is bright airy & welcoming as are the staff. We had the Scottish breakfast & coffee & it is probably one of the best we have had eating out. The ingredients were all top quality & cooked to perfection all at a very affordable price. What a great place for young people with special needs to learn about hospitality. You could see that their mentors really had a vested interest in teaching them. It is obvious that it is well supported by the community & a lot of surrounding communities could gain from having something similar. We will definitely be back - maybe afternoon tea next time!

The Boathouse sits on the historic quayside of Glencaple, overlooking the River Nith. With a cosy snug in which to relax and a restaurant with stunning views, it is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family and enjoy the delicious food on offer
Travelled up from North Yorkshire to meet with some very old friends who live in the north of England, and nearby Lockerbie. This was chosen as the place to gather, and enjoy old times. Made a schoolboy error, as I did not book for lunch, and was blissfully unaware of how busy it gets. This is a testament to how good The Boathouse is, as it is so very popular. A table was found for us in due course when we had all gathered, and were very well looked after by the attentive and diligent staff. The food was plentiful, and very tasty, with the only comment being a touch too much garnish of a forest of leaves. The views are stunning, and the location is idyllic, which when backed up by the service, and food, make this a memorable place to enjoy a meal well prepared. I can speak on behalf of the assembled gatherees, as they were also very pleased with their offerings, and how serene and beautiful the area is. If only it were closer, this would definitely become a regular jaunt, but alas, it was for a special time, in a special place, with special people, and made for a fantastic memory to carry forward till next we gather. I thoroughly recommend The Boathouse, but please make sure you book, so you wont be disappointed.

Came here for a light lunch on a busy Saturday and the three of us shared a large table with another couple of women. Having browsed in the excellent shop, the three of us were ready to eat. I had the large Pea and Ham soup with Loch Arthur bread. It was delicious and filling. Friends chose the ricotta and spinach pie and the other the open topped beef sandwich. Both came with generous salads. We followed with hot chocolate ( me as always), latte and Earl grey tea. Lovely service, great specials board and good menu. All on the level, ample parking, good toilets. Well worth the drive out!

Came here for a Saturday lunch. Didn't want a huge amount. Prices were very reasonable, and portions weren't huge - just about right for a light lunch.Although the restaurant was busy, it wasn't overwhelmed at all. Quick turnaround on tables meant we were seated immediately, although we had a bit of a wait for the table to be cleared.Food was good quality and clearly fresh - cous cous as a side was only slight disappointment - could do with some lemon juice or herbs just to lift it a bit.All in all, a great establishment with good food and attentive staff - would definitely come back,
