Things to do in Dornbirn

We were looking for a quick light lunch. Elfenkuche is really nice place. Shared tables inside, few tables outside. Self service. Two soup options. We have tried both, they were good but not great. Still, great value for money and perfect for a quick bite.
Where to eat Italian food in Dornbirn: The Best Restaurants and Bars
The "Kaffeebohne" is a little bit off from the central pedestrian/shopping/cafe- area around the Markplatz, and is aside from the Cafe a coffee store where you can also buy whole beans and coffee equipment ( grinders, coffee machines, etc ).The cafe itsels is only 25quare meters, with a coffee bar at the end and a large table ( 8 seats ) in the middle of the room. In the shelves around you can find anything you need in order to make decent coffee at home. There is a small selection of bread/croissant that you can order aside from coffee. The coffee itself is indeed made with passion and that is what you can taste as well.Apparently a lot of locals went to this cafe when we´ve been there, so if you wanna meet local people...might be a place to go.Go there if you love coffee, if you can deal with a crowded place that might only offer a standing room at the bar and if you love kids ( at least 5-6 around ).Dont go there if you expect to drink your coffee outside while watching people passing by ( cause the cafe is in a backyard off the main road ).
The best place in Dornbirn to sit down, have a drink and do some people watching is the Markplatz (market square), surrounded by interesting buildings like the big neoclassical St.Martin's Church, the Luger Haus in an architectonic style, which is a mixture of Art Nouveau and Romanitc Nationalism (now housing the Café Steinhauser) and the 'Rotes Haus' from the 17th century. The 'Rotes Haus' is now a good restaurant, but one corner of the building, on street level, has been given over to the local coffee roastery Amann, to sells its products and to run a café snack bar with mainly outdoor seating under yellow umbrellas advertising the Amann coffee.Almost in every cafeteria in Vorarlberg one gets served this brand, which is quite good. Having had my coffee-fill of the day I went for a 'Spritzer', that in Austria so popular mixture of white wine and sparkling water. On the menu card I saw that they also offer all kind of special summer drinks like Hugo, Violetta, Lillet Berry and Tosco Rosso. One sits at little round tables, while next door are the square tables and purple umbrellas of the restaurant 'Rotes Haus' proper. The center of Dornbirn is quite a lively place, especially in comparison to the other little towns of Voarlberg, so I enjoyed my break here at this pleasant little café with the chairs and tables not too crammed as so often happens.
