We ate very well in the Alps, and found meals very reasonably priced, same here, but never before were we faced with such gargantuan portions! :)You have to book I think, and the set meal is 28 Euros, which is pretty good for 3 courses, Genepi shot and Espresso. However we had a big lunch, over in Montgenevre, and we should have been starving to fully appreciate the feast.Firstly there was a wide variety of Italian cheeses and meats- Prosciutto etc, on the biggest platter ever, with lovely sweet pickled chestnuts jam and honey breads etc. Then, when we had polished off the meat and most of the cheese we were very full, and this was bad news as 2 types of hearty stew with lashings of polenta (cheesy polenta is lovely) was coming our way, and then dessert (tiramisu, or chocolate salami (very gooey sort of chocolate brownie) or fruit and creme anglais in a crisp pastry shell). The proprietor was very kind, introducing all the dishes, and letting us take a 'doggy bag' of most of the main course when we struggled. The wines were also excellent, and it was nice to be given free samples in order to choose the red. Dolcetto being the lightest red and my personal favourite, then the heavier barbera and nebbiolo I think. Whites are my favourite and you face an unusual choice in this region of 'fizzy, or dry'. Now all the house whites I had in Sauze (quite a few!) had a bit of fizz and were a bit sweet (frizzante Prosecco like) and delicious, so I couldn't speak for the 'dry' option, but the fizzy white here was also very good, definitely on the sweeter side and a rich golden colour, and paired well with the antipasti. It's not a criticism really but the only thing I can think of which prevents my awarding 5 stars is that there really is a lot of food here, which 6 people really struggled with, although we do like our grub. Being of the Northern 'clear your plate or there's no dessert' mentality, it would have been nice to have the option of paying slightly less, perhaps 25 euros, with dessert being an optional thing you can pay for at the end if you are not absolutely stuffed (unlikely). Ahh! You say, I could have just not eaten the dessert (or such large quantities of everything else) but when it's so delicious you can't help it, and I do like getting my money's worth. The espresso and Genepi and the interesting proposition of sugar cubes pickled in 95 percent alcohol with natural flavourings were also very delicious. Bravo.

Good house red wine. Open all day is a bonus as most other bars donât open until past 4pm so not many places to go early afternoon. A real sub trap and nice little courtyard to sit in. Music a bit loud as I was alone and writing but this would be fine for couples.
