Living in Canterbury I have driven past this place more times than I can remember. On the way home from our holiday we decided to stop and have breakfast somewhere that we could take our dog. Found that Solo had a hidden garden and decided to try it out. We were very glad we did as the breakfasts were very good and the staff friendly. Also at a reasonable cost. The only downside was that one staff member came over and moved the umbrella that was shielding us from the sun and put it over someone else who turned out to be a family member. Otherwise very good

Take a walk through the well maintained Dane John Gardens and you come across this little fine eatery. All the seating is outside so maybe limited by weather. Offering traditional Mexican fare this is a wonderful stop in very pleasant surroundings, with polite, friendly and helpful service, where the owner (?) loves to talk about his menu. I had the all day breakfast item Huevos Rancheros and because this is all freshly prepared it was possible to request it without chilli.

A warm welcome from Lesley to her small, independent coffee house in Canterbury, Kent. Enjoy breakfasts, light-lunches, cakes, specials and cream teas in our 19th century building. Dog-friendly and courtyard garden seating. Eat-in or take-away. Afternoon
Fell upon this place purely by accident and very glad we did. Perfect breakfast, lovely setting and very friendly staff. We had poached eggs which were cooked to perfection, and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Really lovely and probably underpriced for the quality of the food. Clearly run by a lady who takes pride in what she does. Dear 1andonlyfitzy, wow what an amazing review thank you so much itâs so lovely reading wonderful kind words from people like yourselves who support small local businesses.Iâm so glad you enjoyed your visit to Phoebes coffee house and I hope you visit again when your in Canterbury.

Just three doors to the left of Canterbury Cathedral Gate Canteen serves freshly made flatbreads, salads, baguettes, toasties, jacket potatos and daily hot dish / soup. Everything is made to order from freshly prepared ingredients using local suppliers whe
You can count on friendly service, a selection of freshly prepared toasted filled flatbreads, tasty soups, tempting cakes and reasonable prices. Canteen is a stone's throw from the Cathedral in a rambling old building, full of character, but with rather too many stairs for some.

I attended a business networking meeting here where the new Brazilian menu was offered and it was really good! The food was freshly made...I understand that they make everything in house and they definitely have someone in the kitchen who knows what they are doing. Service was friendly and efficient and I will definitely be back soon, for my Xmas party night!

A few tables outside as well as inside. Bustling and friendly with a queue at lunch time. Service was personal if a bit disorganised. Huge portions, tasty soup, wonderful sourdough bread. An amazing array of home made vegetarian and vegan food as well as cakes.

We were doing a Treasure Trail around Canterbury and came upon Lilyâs on our route and decided to sit outside in the sunshine for a well-earned cuppa. This little cafe is a true find and is a lovely organisation to support. We knew nothing of the work of Lilyâs until after we got home and did some research. The cafe is gorgeous with delicious home- made cakes. The almond and coconut cake and the lemon and blueberry bundt cake were delicious. The tea is served in charming mismatched cups and saucers and the pots of tea are really generous with all of us having at least two cups. A wonderful concept and a wonderful cafe. Lilyâs - you are amazing and wonderful and Canterbury is lucky to have you. I really wish there was a Lilyâs nearer to me.

We suppose it is inevitable in a city where proprietors donât have to to try hard because of a captive tourist industry and financially challenged student population, there will be many outlets like this. We were, however, disappointed because the Refectory Kitchen came with above average reviews. Lunch with the house special of hot roast salmon and salad was just OK save for the vinegary, cheap salad dressing blobs. No tomatoes or cucumber. Not sure why these, basic, salad items were omitted. A side dish of chips was unpleasant. Too greasy and not fried at a high enough temperature. Worst of all was the cheap chemical smell from the table cleaning fluid used by waiters and waitresses. Exactly as used in the bad sections of the care home environment. A real turn off. Cost with an apple juice at £11 plus must make for a very profitable business. Average, average, average. Go away, as you probably eventually will, and you wonât be missed.

Went with friends for afternoon tea with Champagne. We were not dissapointed, the sandwiches were freshly made with delicous fillings as were the cream scones. Then a choice of home made cakes with a choice of many different teas. Service was excellent in a very preety tea house. Well worth a visit.
