Gingerbread Restaurant

We headed to Gingerbread for lunch as a second option. We initially intended to go to The Frangipani but were deterred by the emptiness of the restaurant when we arrived. Unfortunately, it was the same thing at Gingerbread. There was no staff to welcome us when we arrived. We seated ourselves and then someone came over to ask us if we were there for lunch. The menus were already under the placemat and mine was totally stained.Service was rather slow. The staff seem to be about their own affairs rather than being alert to the guests’ needs. At one point, the staff member behind the bar was busy with flirtations and dalliances with a co-worker while we tried to get someone's attention. We had to wave our arms about or call out every time we needed something. We were rather disappointed by the menu. Nothing local was offered for lunch so we ordered the Bequian Fish Burger and fries. It tasted okay. I was rather put off though by the provision of ketchup packets on our plate as though it were a fast food drive-through service. We were given 3 packets each but this was not enough so I requested more. For a proper sit-down restaurant, we expected proper condiment bottles to be provided. Also, the menu stated that the burger came with a curry tartar sauce but it was barely visible on the bread which was just dry. The coleslaw was good but there was so little of it - barely a tablespoon full! The menu also stated that it would be served on a Sesame Seed bun. It appeared they ran out of burger buns as it was served on regular thin bread slices with the ends cut off and cut into a roundish shape. For this we paid EC$100 for 2 burgers (excluding service charge)! Certainly on the high side for what is provided. It was a rather disappointing experience. Sadly, the nicest part of the meal was the view.

What a sweet find right on the beach in Lower Bay. Get your cocktail or wine next door at Da Reef but don't waste your time or money on their food. Walk 25 feet to Bee's and try some fish or chicken "cutters" $5 EC. Home made buns , fresh lettuce and tomatos yummy! Also delicious lemonade and cookies. The owner worked for a flour company on St. Vincent for many years and is shy but delightful. Our consistent coice for a freshly made and simple lunch on the cheap on a lovely beach.
