If youâre visiting Benalla, I highly recommend the Red Road Cafe! Located to the adjoining art space, itâs truely a great place to enjoy a range of coffees and chat to the friendly staff as well as browsing the retail store with fantastic paintings and other artwork for sale by local and very talented artists most of which is created on site. A great welcoming and retro setting makes it very relaxing.

Regular customer at Shady Elm. Never had food that was any less than excellent, as was the service. Just read baffling review from "Didster" - what he/she claimed to have ordered is not in their menu, and Didster gave the exact same review to another Benalla cafe - very irresponsible! Food was attractively presented, well priced and delicious, as well as arriving very quickly. Shady Elm has a very loyal and regular clientèle and deservedly so. Sit outside if the weather allows - it's glorious under the Elm and you might get to meet the cutest chickens you have ever seen.

We were looking for a cafe for breakfast on our first morning in Benalla. We entered the popular place across the street and got a cursory "breakfast? Here's your menus, sit anywhere" that was not exactly welcoming. Nor were the prices - $17 for French toast or pancakes, more for egg breakfasts. Might as well have stayed in Melbourne.SO we popped over to Bouwmeesters. Although the menu is more limited, both the egg&bacon sandwich and the breakfast croissant were only about $7 and were both delicious, probably the best we've had.The coffee was excellent too, and service was cheerful and welcoming.

Breakfast in Benalla was a treat at this cafe where the staff were supper efficient and the food delicious. The staff went that extra mile by providing us with visitor information which enhanced our stay in this beautiful town. I cannot recommend this place too highly it is one of the best in the state if not the country.

Holidaying localy and this day travelling the Benalla silo art trail, we stopped of here for a late lunch only to be greeted with a menu detailing a broad selection of gluten free choices including an all day breakfast and with friendly staff obviously well familiar with Coeliac requirements.The beer battered fish (confidently explained as being battered with soda water in lieu of beer) was delightfulNot just a cafe, the produce and other products make this a great stop when in the area
