Things to do in Wincanton
Visited with my two year old and she really enjoyed the mini village. All the staff are friendly and helpful. It's clean and tidy and a really well thought out space. They also hire it our for parties which would be lovely if it was a bit more local for us. Its 2.95 for a child and one adult then 1.50 for an additional adult. The food is lovely however I would rather the children's sandwich was made in brown bread and it would have been nicer to be given a choice of fruit as my daughter didn't like the ones we were given. Also the downstairs space could do with some comfy seating which would make it more breastfeeding friendly. Would highly recommend a trip here.

We are local but usually use a different chippie. We tried the Wincanton Fish Bar and we were not disappointed.Excellent Cod and chips - the fish was particularly good. Large portions, succulent, fresh and beautifully cooked Cod. The batter was a little too greasy. The chips were tasty and plentiful. The staff are extremely pleasant, friendly and welcoming and the prices are reasonable and very competitive with anything else in the locale

Joined three of my son's for an impromptu meal on Saturday night. The whole point is that it was good at what it did, with no frills. Prices were very reasonable, and the food was good - not fantastic, but good so that you'd tell friends, or be happy to revisit. The Abbot ale was excellent (I would have been happier if it wasn't quite so cool). The young waitress was very good, friendly, (but not "have a nice day" friendly) professional and matched her style to the people she was dealing with. The toilets could do with a bit of tlc, but I don't know how long the current people have been there, and I know things have to wait their turn.Would happily go back.

I have already mentioned the restaurant of the Holbrook Hotel in my review of the hotel itself. The restaurant needs a complete makeover, it is old and tired. The service is good but, having ordered the beef at over £30 I had to pay extra for the potatoes. The meal was the size of a starter, the beef was gone in four small mouthfuls. Without the extra potatoes it was all totally inadequate. If you want a decent meal go elsewhere.Dear 911euf, I am very disheartened to read your review, we do offer 'steak and chips' from our brassiere menu, if this was more to your liking. We would quite happily served in the restaurant. It is such a shame that you have taken to Trip Advisor instead of actually speaking with myself or any of the staff here at Holbrook House, where would have been more than happy to help. I am very disappointed to hear that your expectations were not surpassed and I do hope that you might return in the future, for a second attempt. Kind Regards Darren McGinley

with 241 on mains this is a cheap eat place. Service was good, food good, although the bbq ribs could have had a little more sticky source. Place is huge, kid friendly, but not good for mutley.

Met some friends here for Sunday lunch, reserving a table was a good move as it was pretty busy. We had starters all the way through to dessert....all the courses were fantastic! No question or request was too much either, servers were attentive. Would certainly recommend if you were in the area

Enjoyed a lovely lunch on route to Dartmoor. We had fish and chips and ham eggs and chips with a scrumpy cider and an IPA. All were of excellent quality and the fish was especially thick and moist. The scrumpy was, cool, not cold, wet, fruity and slightly sour - yummy. The man serving was really helpful and knowledgeable about the ciders on offer. He checked if everything was OK a few minutes after serving. In the ladies there was a thoughtful basket of "toiletries" if you were surprised by nature.A very good place to visit if your passing on the A303. Thank you for your lovely review - we're glad you enjoyed your visit to us!

Outstanding quality and service for a Saturday afternoon lunch in this lovely countryside pub in the beautiful surroundings of Somerset. Simple lunchtime menu but superior quality food with real cotton napkins - a sure sign of quality and attention to detail. Highly recommended for food quality and a good choice of local ciders. The Local still cider form the village won the Champion of Champions for the whole of the UK
