Visited after a walk around Stanwick Lakes for lunch. Lovely village pub with good parking and roomy bar and restaurant. Good choice of sandwiches, all served with chips and salad and reasonably priced. Pub maintains tradition with an old Northamptonshire skittles table in the bar. Friendly staff and the owners were also on hand to give a welcome. Well worth a detour to find this place and will certainly be visiting again.

What a perfect stop when travelling along the A14 towards Kettering. Just a mile off the a14 nestled in a pretty village. Great welcome from landlord Simon. Fabulous centuries old building beautifully maintained. The menu was imaginative, all home cooked dishes.the service was delightful and immediate from a lovely lady whom name escapes me but has worked there for six years. Canât fault it. Food was excellent. Will be making this a pull off when travelling that route again.

The Old Friar is situated in the quaint village of Twywell in Northamptonshire. Our beautiful old Inn and massive Beer Garden with Children's play equipment is a great retreat for couples, family's & gatherings. We are well known in the area for our home
Not only does this pub hold a lot of sweet memories for me, it really knows how to do good pub grub. Came about a week ago and had a cod goujon sandwich, that comes with fruit crisps and coleslaw and I had a side of Cheesy chips. For dessert I had Eton Mess which was scrumptious. The service wasnât the quickest, the main took a while to arrive but staff were friendly and polite. Look forward to coming again :)

Been here a few times, each time the service has been lacking. The dining room is upstairs but the kitchen downstairs, with just one waitress running between and pausing for a natter downstairs. So often you're left waiting, and sometimes so is the food. They could vastly improve by having bread, olives and oils kept upstairs so they come out promptly. The food was fine, if a little cold when it arrived, but the service does not fit with the fairly hefty price tag.

First of all I want to Thank The Old Barn for making such a wonderful array of food for my Nans 90th Birthday. They were four generations ready to surprise her it was lovely to see everyone there, But the personal touches were missing on this trip, although it didn't affect the day, I did feel it wasn't as special as before. We had taken my nan here before for her Birthday and she loved it, they bought out her favourite cake as a Birthday cake, she had a lovely gift on her table of a wonderful bar of soap, which she used until she had the thinnest slither left in her shower tray, so The old Barn was the perfect place to bring her on such a milestone birthday when we arrived the table was set for too many people it was set for 17 but we had booked and it was confirmed when we popped over that it was a table for 12. We also told them that my nans favourite cake was a Victoria sponge for her Birthday cake There was a used napkin on the table, no present for my nan and the Birthday cake never materialised ,it didn't affect the occasion as there was so much excellent quality food it could have fed an army, but I wanted everything perfect for such a special lady,I didn't mention it as I wasn't going to ruin a wonderful day. For a table of 12 a complete mixture of ages from 2 to 90,the bill only came to a very reasonable price of £176,plus tip. Great day but just not perfect.

Local family friendly coffee shop/ restaurant that does food from cakes and snacks through to full breakfasts and main meals, lots of locally sourced home made products.,great range of sandwiches and toasties and daily specials
Called in as somewhere to stop en route to Norfolk coast without knowing anything about it. Delighted. Old haberdashery shop with original features now a cafe. Sat in the very nicely kept little patio garden at the back. Menu & Specials all seemed interesting & well priced. When our choices arrived we weren't disappointed- very good quality & generous portions of freshly cooked/prepared food. Lovely coffee. All so good that when returning from Norfolk we broke our journey here again for another excellent little meal, at very good price.

This is a typical roadside pub offering fairly traditional dishes but definitely a cut above your average pub grub. Everything was very nicely presented and perfectly cooked. I had calves liver which was tender and delicious, two people had lamb shanks which were very good. Main courses come accompanied by potato and seasonal veg which were nice and crunchy. We went there for lunch, meeting friends who were coming from Cambridge and it was halfway between them and us. It worked out really well for a bit of an "off-chance". You can have a nice walk round the Titchmarsh nature reserve afterwards as well.

On a Sunday evening there was a limited choice on the menu. Two of the party had fish and chips, two had roasts (one lamb, one turkey). The fish had been overcooked and was tough. The meat in the roast dinners was thinly sliced and did not give the impression of having come from a freshly roast joint/bird. Everything had been drowned in overseasoned gravy, which was all that could be tasted. At over £20 a head for one course plus drinks, very poor value for money. The one positive was the very nice, friendly serving staff.Thank you for your review; without feedback we cannot improve on what we do at The Woolpack Inn, Islip. It is lovely to receive such positive comments about our front of house staff, thank you. I am really sorry to hear about your disappointment with the food and the menu; we will be addressing your comments and reviewing our pricing. We do hope that you will give us another chance, we look forward to seeing you soon.
