I used to be the landlord here, 30 years ago and my has it changed, not so much physically but the way it is run and the look of the place. Still family run and they are good at it, super people and a fabulous atmosphere. Smartly decorated and tastefully done it was a real pleasure to visit. The food is absolutely first class, the menu is small and well thought out, 6 of each, starters, mains and sweets with a couple of specials, brilliant. There were 4 of us and all had different things, I had the best Belly Pork I have ever had, the fish dishes and the risotto were apparently fab as well, the sweets were to die for.Not overpriced and certainly not pretentious, a good mix of locals and visitors, a very friendly atmosphere and great food with good parking, what a mix, go and visit it's worth it, book first mind!

I was really looking forward to visiting today but didnât stay for food or another drink because the bar service was so slow.. just one person on!! Went to the boat inn for another drink before catching a train from the station. Great building but service needs to meet the same standard.

So many pubs have become too fancy and lost the feel of being a local where people chat at the bar. This pub combines food and the bar atmosphere. The homemade sausages were beautiful with buttery mash. No jus in sight. Quality food, well cooked.Warm and friendly atmosphere. Good range of real ale too.

This place was listed in a Tea Guild book of places for afternoon tea, so I feared it would be pricey and crowded when I headed there for lunch. Thankfully, it was neither! Perhaps since it was midday, or perhaps since it's somewhat hidden up a staircase from the main street - either way, I was surprised and puzzled why this excellent place was not bursting at the seams, because I thoroughly enjoyed my 'Melton Selection' lunch. The decor is lovely, full of pretty china and cute touches. I was able to sit by a window, taking in the sunshine and people-watching below. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I only wish I could go back to sample one of their intriguing sounding cream teas!Hi Sarah,Thanks so much for your lovely review. It's always nice to receive feedback from people, especially non-locals.I'm happy that you found us.

The whole team made us feel so welcomed. Guests commented that it was the best Afternoon Tea they had ever had. Thank you to James, Lucy and everyone else involved, for making it an afternoon to remember.
