Find out what British restaurants to try in Manchester. Famed for its soccer team and music scene, which has produced the likes of the Smiths and Oasis, this center for sports and the arts is a down-to-earth and friendly city. The so-called Capital of the North has overcome industrial decline, bombing (in WWII and by the IRA) to become a confident and cosmopolitan city of well over two million. It is well served by a bus and light rail network. Top attractions include the Lowry art complex, arcade Affleck's Palace and Canal Street gay village.

We ate here for evening meal, and breakfast the following day, at the end of October as guests in the hotel. The restaurant is extremely well presented and has a very high class feel about the place. The service we received was very professional, with an evening menu made up of mainly steak and fish based dishes and the breakfast choices equally as rich and decadent. The prices reflected the environment, but the food was plentiful and full of flavour, so worth the outlay with what was received. Would return again and recommend to other couples or those wanting to dine with business clients etc. presented and Dear aetaylor1986,Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent experience with us at Dakota.I am delighted to read that your time with us was so enjoyable and that our high levels of food and service played a big part in your experience being fantastic.I will take great pleasure in passing on your greats comments to the whole team here at Dakota. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.Warm regards,Guest Relations

A meal for seven friends here was a delight. The service was friendly but professional, and the ambience of the low-ceilinged intimate dining room made it feel more like you were eating in someone's home than in commercial establishment. Dishes were nicely presented and well executed and the emphasis on seasonal produce was clear, although several of us felt that there was a lack of seasoning -a bit more salt would have made the dishes 'sing'. There was also a distinct lack of carbohydrate: a tiny square of dauphinoise potato was the sum of it. This did mean we all had room for the delicious desserts, with the sticky toffee pudding matching the accolade at the Lime Tree last year as 'joint best ever'. This was a lovely meal, and I'd be more than happy to return -if only to work my was through the amazing dessert selection.

I'm currently just a little stunned. I realise food is about opinions, but seeing two negative reviews of this amazing place is somewhat surprising. 'Trying too hard to be fine dining' I read. Trying hard, yes; succeeding? - absolutely. My last review was of Moor Hall in Ormskirk near Liverpool. Mana is different - but being on a street corner in Ancoats sort of rules out the taking in of the mansion over a cocktail, and the perusing the wonderful gardens as the sun goes down. One thing to say about Mana is that they make the best of what they DO have. I don't generally love open kitchens. So often clanking and shouting can be off-putting. Here it was calmness personified; also the fact that courses were served by those creating your culinary masterpieces gave a certain fluidity in service. All were incredibly knowledgable, including the creator-in-general Simon Martin who took his turn bringing each of the many courses to the table. I'm not going into every mouthful course by course, but suffice it to say that I like at least two or three of the courses in a taster menu to take me somewhere I've never been before; to give me the 'wow' factor. During these times gentle conversation stop immediately, so that full concentration is given to the taste, smells and textures that are 'occurring'..In Mana there was a multitude of such moments. I'm thinking the caviar in preserved tomato; the lightly cooked langoustine covered in cured egg yolk, served in spruce leaves- probably the most perfect mouthful I can remember.. I'm salivating at the mere thought of beautiful carrot dish; the amazing oyster (..and I generally HATE oysters!), the duck cooked beautifully over burning charcoal.. so the list went on, so full of excitement in small, edible parcels..We shared a flight of wines, and they were incredibly well thought out, and presented with warmth by the excellent Sommelier..Manchester always gets excited at this time of year, only for Michelin to burst all the bubbles of hope. If Mana were in Knightsbridge, the 'Star' would be a 'shoo-in'. Personally, I think all the 'Chakras' in Mana, the wonderful cooking, service, ambience etc, are aligned to create a 2-star setting. If this incredible restaurant is ignored, I suggest all the top chefs in Manchester simply stop trying to impress the inspectors, and concentrate on those who's opinions really matter. I for one absolutely loved it, and the memories and emotions I have taken away will last a long long time.Highly recommended

It was 15:40 on a saturday, me and a friend was waiting for others to join us... so we sat in one of the booths with the bench seats with our drinks awaiting the others to arrive, having being sat there 10 minutes... a member of staff approached us and said we would have to move as the table was reserved, the table wasnt reserved at all... other tables where but not this one, so i oblidged and as i did do the crowd of about 15 plus walked over from opposite tables which is like one long table but i think its 3 pushed together, and said thanks for moving they need our tables soon... so whats that all about, moving on 2 people that was soon to be 8 to be replaced by 15 plus people... not happy and definately wont be in the bar again. We are so sorry to hear this. Due to the busy run up to Christmas we are extremely busy for Bottomless Brunch, especially on Saturdays. If you would like to discuss this further, please email us at;[email protected] Thanks,Emily

The UKs first grilled Cheese restaurant, serving up the ooziest grilled cheese sandwiches accompanied by the best northern soul tracks
Very tasty grilled cheese toast! The place is small with very few seating options but its worth the stop. We had the tuna melt and a veggie one and both were awesome.

Our first time visit here. We met our daughter here for a quick bite to eat before a show. Good atmosphere in the early evening. We were seated quickly and soon had a drink. The menu has a good variety and they kindly delivered the food at a certain time when our daughter arrived.Hubby loved the nachos starter. If you like a bit of kick with your food go for it! The burgers and pizza were also good.Big shout out to the loveliest employee, Issac. So cheerful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
