With plenty to explore around Malmesbury, The Smoking Dog is a perfect pit stop for Bath and the surrounding areas; Westonbirt Arboretum, Malmesbury Abbey and Lacock Abbey nearby are all close. The Smoking Dog provides a welcome lunch, afternoon pick me u

Having attended a LBGT meeting we decamped to the whole hog for refreshments .On entering we were greeted by a lovely man who recommended what the best beers were .There seemed to be a vibrant scene going on in the pub and we felt relaxed and mingled with the charming locals, one in particular called Campey, I may have got the spelling wrong!Finished the session off with some beautiful bangers and mash, and left with a glowing warm feeling.

A cafe inside Malmesbury Abbey (don't believe the Google Map below!) That is part of the mission of Malmesbury Abbey, to provide hospitality to friends, locals and visitors alike. Specialising in home-made cakes renowned across the West Country, home-made
We called into visit the abbey and I couldn't resist staying for lunch! delicious soup and carrot cake but what made it so wonderful was being able to sit in the beautiful abbey interior and eat it.

Pleasant atmosphere to the place but I ordered the chicken which took a long time to arrive and when it was served it was extremely dry and tough..I could have used it to line the soles of my shoes for our further travels to the peaks.May look good on the outside but we were disappointed with the food quality once inside especially considering the price...

I travel from Gloucestershire to have my Sunday Lunch simply because itâs the best I have ever tasted. A couple of weeks ago I took my daughter and she agreed itâs the best she has tasted.Lovely village pub with two wood burners and helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

OK odd title for this review, but honest. I took my better half here for lunch, but lunch turned into 4 hours due to my car deciding it didn't want to leave the car park, but you couldn't find s better place to break down.Firstly the pub old and quirky as a village pub should be, had lots of little details that were interesting.Next the food I had a lovely steak cooked perfectly plenty of chips just perfect my better half had a huge piece of fish everything was spot on even the upside down pineapple cake for pudding was lovely, I cant fault the meal in anyway.Last but not least the staff seeing they had to put up with us for quite a while waiting for the RAC, we found them to be so friendly although Julia prob didn't notice after several cava'a and lager and limes she was more than happy to stay longer :-)Thank you we are definitely returning

From 7.30 am we do food from a butchers breakfasted ( you can chose your sausage from our vast range)to poached eggs. Lunch from 12 am and now on the first Saturday of the month we are doing steak nights. We have a full licence and a three coarse menu is
Thank you, Michael's Butchers, for an enjoyable lunch for my husband and myself at your light and airy Bistro. My toasted chicken, onion and melted cheese sandwich was delicious, as was my husband's ham, egg and chips, and the warm hospitality of all the team was appreciated. Michael's Butchers has an alcohol licence, so a glass of Peroni each complemented our lunch nicely. Well worth a visit!Thank you so much for your lovely review, we hope you enjoyed your visit to Malmesbury on your Wedding Anniversary. It was a pleasure to serve you.

With a reputation for the best in Cotswold food and drink, The Horse Guards also prides itself on its hospitality. Whether staying as a guest, dining or just having a drink, The Horse Guards is famous for its friendly and informal culture. Our aim is to w
The proprietors, Arthur and Janette could not have done more to make my ninetieth birthday dinner more enjoyable. From the planning stage to the night of the event, they were most helpful. Janette helped my daughter to make the table look sparkling and inviting, the food, selected in advance by our 18 guests was excellently cooked, and the wine flowed steadily. We all enjoyed a relaxed, informal evening and could not have asked for a better place to celebrate a special family occasion.I have to be honest in admitting that this is the second review covering this special occasion. Whilst the first was greatly appreciated I must also be honest in admitting that this review tops it...simply because it is from the gentleman himself. What greater praise could we ask for? I can only repeat that this was the kind of party any host would die for. Great company and we truly appreciate these very kind words. Thank you.

While staying at Whatley Manor we booked a table at The Dining Room for the chefs experience.I would highly recommend it - what an amazing evening. We started with drinks on the patio with some starters then were invited into the kitchen for the next 3 courses.I loved being in the kitchen and watching the very talented chefs at work. I liked that when you were presented with a dish there was so much information given. After 3 dishes in the kitchen we then moved on to the dining room for the final courses. This was a first time for us and I really enjoyed a tasting menu experience as I tried items I wouldnât usually order such a eel (which was incredible)!Would definitely recommend this experience when staying at Whatley Manor. We love being able to share the back of house areas with our guests. We know it is not unique in the UK to visit professional kitchens, but our format is a bit unique for the moment. Our kitchen is a lovely light and bright space so we feel very proud to be able to share it to our guests. The chefs enjoy meeting the guests they are cooking for and its nice to hear that the guests enjoy meeting them and seeing them at work. Thank you for your kind recommendation and we very much hope we can tempt you back one day. kind regards Sue W
