Very friendly guy. Room lovely, shower great, bed comfy. Luggage not taken to room though. Excellent porridge and breakfast options available to choose from. Pack up was good and was able to choose from a selection of sweets/crisps/fruit/drinketc. Due to bad weather that day our host advised us to take an alternate route and went out iof his way to mark out a map for us and was extremely helpful and informative....thanks for that!

Recently refurbished and with 2 AA Rosettes, the Lake View Restaurant at the 4* Inn on the Lake hotel has all the ingredients for a mouth-watering dining experience. Nestled on the shores of Ullswater with its own private jetties, 15 acres of grounds, an

Locally sourced homemade food by high quality chefs
The Beckside Bar added a nice plus to our short stop at Glenridding (to visit Lake Ullswater). Weather meant we could sit outside (although inside was clean and nicely laid out). Food was ordered at the bar and bought out piping hot shortly after. A numbered wooden spoon indicated our location. This was superior pub food. D opted for the grilled halloumi salad and loved it! I went for the chicken/chorizo skewers (with a rich aioli dip), a bowl of fries (of course! Cooked perfectly) and the crispy fried brie (served with a quite wonderful pear and cranberry chutney and a jalapeno dip. Delish! Service was quick and with a smile. If we're ever back this way...

Super cosy local pub, welcoming and friendly staff, food is fantastic! Does get busy from early evening however, we had to wait some time for our food (it was very busy this wait was communicated to us upon ordering) but was well worth it!Dear mikesoton2018,Thank you for taking the time and effort to leave us such an excellent review, itâs very much appreciated and we are delighted you enjoyed your food. Our wait times can sometimes be prolonged during busy periods but as you rightly point out itâs always communicated to the customers at the time of ordering.Very best wishes and safe travels,Ashley, Andy and the White Lion team

Always enjoy a visit to the Travellers Rest anytime weâre in the area. The history and atmosphere inside always feels good, never eaten here but always noticed the menu choice is quite good! Ideal to pop in for a quick drink on the end/start of a hike or even to spend the evening there enjoying the choice of beers and listening to the live music every other week

The Candleroom is a brand new addition to Rambler's Bar. This bright and lofty, oak beamed room features a stunning glass frontage offering views to the fells and beyond. With an eclectic mix of modern and traditional furnishing, upholstered in beautifull
I come to Matterdale End home/dog sitting about 4 times a year and I always come to the Inn on the Lake for Sunday lunch. I am usually a solo diner and i am always welcomed. The staff usually recognise me and are attentive. Sunday lunch is always of the highest quality. The beef is always pink which is just how i like it. HOWEVER, this time was not up to par. A friend was visiting for the weekend and i told her how fabulous this place is. We turned up having failed to make a reservation and were unable to get in the Orangery. The Orangery has amazing views and i always dine in there. On this occasion we were in the Candleroom which overlooks the car park. Fabulous greeting from Louisa who is always lovely. She is a fabulous waitress who always has a smile. Emma served our table and she was fabulous. All staff members excel at what they do. Starters were lovely and then it went wrong. Beef was luke warm, veg was luke warm and only one carrot between two people, roasties were insipid and again luke warm. The only thing hot was the plate. My friend send hers back to be reheated. I was too hungry so i ate it as it was. After a 5 minute wait and when i had nearly finished, my friends meal returned but was no better. A table of 4 also complained that the food wasn't hot enough too. When we were asked if all was ok, i explained that it just wasn't up to standard. I was told management would be approached to see if there would be any reduction in bill but when the bill arrived there was not. Had this been my first visit, i wouldn't have returned. What has happened? Really not up to usual standard. Was it because of the wedding? Taking on too much that the kitchen staff were too pushed? Consequences are: We didn't leave a tip which meant the fabulous serving staff missed out. I was going to book for next Sunday when again i have a visitor but have decided to try The Foxborough in Carlisle instead.Dear ladybird2254Thank you for your review. We are truly sorry if your lunch wasn't up to normal standards, we have gained a very good reputation for our Sunday lunch so I am deeply disappointed that you left unhappy.I will be speaking to my Candle room manager and the chefs who were working on that particular day as this is not the norm as you point out in your review and infact quite opposite to what you have experienced in the past.We look forward to welcoming you back and hope we can make up for your one off experience.Kind regardsGaryGeneral manager

With astounding panoramic views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells, the Orangery at the Inn on the Lake welcomes residents and non-residents to relax and enjoy the scenery whilst enjoying a light snack, lunch, afternoon tea, evening meal or cocktail.
We took afternoon cream tea in The Orangery during a stay at the hotel. It was good, but could have been better if the sandwich selection was more varied. I would have also liked the scones to have been warm, although the pastries and sweets were excellent.

Fellbites cafe restaurant is situated in the centre of Glenridding serving hot and cold snacks, yummy cakes, scones, tea and coffee throughout the day. From Wednesday through to Sunday an evening menu is available serving locally sourced produce.
This time I was in here for a light lunch with my dad, who lives in the area, and Fellbites did us proud. He had a delicious crayfish and mayo sandwich combo, with a generous side salad and fresh cole slaw; I went for an equally delicious spicy lentil soup with brown bread, and we both had drinks to go with - a cider (unusually) for my dad and a sparkling water for me. Friendly and extremely quick service and really tasty food, at a reasonable price and in comfortable surroundings, right in the centre of one of the most attractive villages in the Lakes. What more can you ask for?

The Restaurant at Rothay Manor has a long standing reputation for excellent food and wine. With 3 AA rosettes we offer modern fine dining cuisine served with flair and imagination. Our candlelight restaurant is open for Dinner everyday offering a 2 and 3
Excellent food in a lovely old building with nice grounds. Plenty of dining options, from a la carte, vegetarian to different tasting menus. The service was friendly and enthusiastic but not quite on the ball and we waited quite a long time between courses but it was a busy saturday evening. Overall I can highly recommend and will definitely return

Cumbria no 1 award winning fish and chip take away. "Winning in excess of 30 national awards over the last 10 years Young entrepreneur Dan, has moulded angel lane chippie in to a fine place to eat at such a low cost" Official Top 20 in UK in National Fish
Went to this chippy as highly recommended and it won an award in 2019 as one of the 10 best chips shops in the UK. Perhaps it was the high expectations which let the place down. While the fish was lovingly cooked I found the chips to be underwhelming. Brown on outside and not all that soft in the middle. Quite expensive as well. Over £7 for a cod and chips. Had much better and from chip shops that haven't won any awards. Says a lot ...
