A 17th century pub brought back to life with contempary lighting and soft furnishings that bring out the beauty of the original Oxford stone. The front bar holds the key to your welcome with a fully functional wood burner, the stable room restaurant, an or
I booked a table online the day before and asked for a quiet corner as one of our party finds it difficult to hear in a noisy environment. When we arrived we made ourselves known at the bar and that we had booked. We were shown to a table, which was not laid, and given some menus to peruse. When the barman (may have been manager I am not sure) came over to take a drinks order I again mentioned that we had booked, which he responded to by telling me 'I know, I'm all over it'. What struck me as strange was that a table had been laid up, in the window seat, for four people. As we sat having a drink the pub filled with a large group that were attending a wake, which clearly began to monopolise the bar staffs attention and created a considerable level of noise where we were sitting.Eventually I approached the bar and asked the lady that had taken our food order if the table that was laid up was for a booking. Sure enough the table was actually for us. Not quite 'all over it' then?!My impression was that the barman was less than impressed with us moving. He was certainly polite, but there was a sense that we had transgressed. We were the only diners in a pub full of people from the wake. It was noticeable that we had to wait some time to get food and some time to get service in between courses. We also had to take the initiative and go to the bar to get a bill and pay. Clearly they had to deal with a very large group of people from the wake and I can understand that a table of four having dinner was probably an inconvenience they could have done without. They perhaps should have said this when we booked? Particularly as I was asking for a quiet area.I would have to say that the food we received was very nice and I would have no hesitation to recommend the pub for that. It wasn't the best of days to judge the service but the lack of attention to our booking was, for me, disappointing and came some time before the wake arrived, when the pub was quiet. My recommendation to the pub would be to think about how you make those that book online feel like they are getting great customer service.Colin,Thank you for your review. You have booked the the table online the night before so we did not have much chance to contact you. However, since your table was booked for 12 midday we did not see it clashing with any other bookings. Having said that, only part of your party arrived after 12, with the last gentlemen arriving at 12.22pm. This meant that the pub was getting busier by then. We have prepared a table for you, a table of four, but as the bar was getting busier and you asked for quieter area when you booked, when you have eventually arrived for your booking, I have made a decision to move you to the table of 8 (despite getting full). This was a table in the window, which we could see from the bar so you did not get lost in the crowd and it was as far from the bar (and the noise of the mourners you mention) as possible. At no point have I been anything but understanding of the fact we were extremely busy but wanted to make sure you and our other diners were taken care of. In your private messages you then change tact completely and personally attack me alone for quite frankly I am not sure what, I personally cleared you and your own party acknowledged you wanted desserts in about ten minutes to allow your dinner to go down. I understand we are all human and mistakes happen, however on this occasion I strongly disagree with your review and your findings based on your opinions with no foundation. I have asked you again when paying your bill "how was everything" and even then no mention of any of the any of the above, if you had,I am sure we could have had this conversation then instead of in a public forum. On the day of your booking we did have a wake, which was much busier than the family and ourselves expected, which was a testament to the lovely lady who sadly passed away. Cotswolds town of Chipping Norton left behind on way to Bicester saw signs for the Tite Inn at Chadlington. Decided to investigate - so pleased we did as this charming pub restaurant was a great ''Find''. Tite is a meaning of trough for water which ran through the village. The food here is extremely good and value for money. well served in a pleasant manner in lovely surroundings. We will probably never pass this way again but if we do.........! Recommended.

Very good restaurant in Oxfordshire. It serves a selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, with gluten free options shown on the menu.
I can thoroughly recommend Whistlers for a great breakfast. Terrific staff and the most amazing Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon!

Both he and the young man helping couldnât have been more friendly or helpful. Food was fantastic and the menu quite varied. Good atmosphere and would definitely recommend if in the area. Phoned ahead to book when arriving in town and the call has yet to be answered. Got the last table in the place. Went two nights running and the food was excellent on both occasions. I do like a place that has a fixed-price menu with none of those expensive side-dishes that other places catch you with. The wine list has some really nice wines and they were reasonably priced again unlike other places where the shirt is taken off your back with this 'extra'. Liked it so much that I e-mailed them for information for a package. I still await an answer. Why do they bother with an e-mail address and a telephone number?Thank you taking the time to leave your review. Iâm pleased you enjoyed your visits to us and sorry that we have fallen down on responding to messages. We have just returned from a summer break so maybe your e mail was overlooked....As an owner managed business with family to juggle we are not always here to answer calls but should reply to all messages left either my e mail or phone. Kind Regards Sally
