Think of the Wheatsheaf as a place to relax. For people looking for comfort to socialise where it is as much about drinking as eating think "The Wheatsheaf Inn".The Wheatsheaf is about value for money, your need to escape, to relax and enjoy, somewhere wh
On a three night stay at the local Premier Inn we could have easily have eaten here three out of three - except that Saturday was full. Just what everyone else says: good food in a pub setting. That means still having room for the drinkers that gave the place pub atmosphere. Sadly we ran out of space to try the interesting deserts on offer. If you're a desert person, pace yourself. Superb range of vegetables, wonderful chips and own cooked nachos.

Standard cafe menu of sandwiches, quiche, baked potatoes and soup with a selection of cakes, scones and tray bakes but all done really well. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly service and good quality. Busy at peak times with take away orders as well as sit down meals. Would be good if they offered a kids menu or at least smaller portions but otherwise very nice.Thank you for your review. We do offer children's portions and prices for those that are eating a child sized portion. Generally for under 10 year olds. For afternoon tea we offer a half sized afternoon tea for under 10s too.

We were very much looking forward to our lunch as we had heard so many good comments about this restaurant. The restaurant itself is outstanding and we were pleased with the Accessible Parking and lift. On arrival the Maitre dâ was superb - he welcomed us and made us feel very comfortable. We ordered a starter and main course. Again my king prawns were absolutely delicious and my husband enjoyed his soup then things began to go slightly down hill when our main course arrived. My husband ordered fish and chips. The fish portion was very small and the fish was overcooked and dry. His plate was filled with chips - again these were dry. I chose the salmon in a sauce vierge. The salmon was good but the sauce tasted as though it had come straight from the fridge and was very very cold. I too had a plate of new potatoes which were dry. However there seemed to be too much oil on my plate. The meal wasnât bad but it wasnât as good as I expected and certainly wasnât good enough for the price we paid. When asked by the maitre dâ if we had enjoyed the meal I explained our disappointment. The reason Iâm writing this on social media is because he said that the chef pays more attention to and spends more time on main meals - especially those on a Friday and Saturday. However he did offer us a free dessert.Just not good enough Iâm afraid!!!Thank you so much for your valuable feedback from your visit yesterday, It will certainly help us improve in the future. I am sorry that we fell short of your expectations yesterday and can only apologise for the mistakes that were made on our part. With regards to the portion size of the Haddock & Chips, we have had a lot of comments in the past about the portion size being too large which resulted in excessive wastage. We did review this and are currently trialing a smaller fillet size to address this issue. Obviously if we have gone too far the other way, we need to find a happy medium. Your comments have been discussed with the chefs who will pass on to the suppliers.I also spoke to Yann who served you yesterday, he was upset to hear that his comments came across wrongly. He reassured me that he was keen that you would come back and try our evening dinner menu and give us another chance because the dinner menu is so well-received.We would love to welcome you back and discuss your visit further and have a chance to put things right. Many thanksRachel Ferguson

Went here last night for a birthday meal with a group of eight. As usual, absolutely beautiful food. The Chef came to the table to discuss options and was very funny and informative. The young ladies serving food and drinks were so efficient and polite, they are a credit to the place. The Landlord was his usual pleasant, hilarious self, heâs brilliant. Thank you all so much for another perfect dining experience.Wow lovely comments and Iâm upset I wasnât around to say hello. Iâm so pleased you had a lovely meal. Look forward to seeing you again.

My friend and I were recommended Whytes for lunch by the lovely lady in the nearby antiques shop and we werenât disappointed. Lovely fresh homemade food and great service in really pleasant surroundings. Only wish Iâd found it on previous visits to Carlisle!

Visited Anazao with a friend today: Carlisle is "halfway" for us both, and I wanted to try somewhere I hadn't been before. We both love afternoon tea so I contacted the tea room in advance to enquire and book. From initial contact, the staff were so warm and friendly, and couldn't do enough to accommodate us. When we arrived early, we were welcomed so enthusiastically. We got to pick our own sandwich fillings, a huge slice of our favourite cake out of the delicious array on offer, and a drink, as well as a scone. I am vegan (despite rumours to the contrary, we vegans still adore cake!), and have been disappointed in the past by dry and dusty scones (I'm looking at you, Edinburgh Dome...). Anazao's vegan scone was incredible! Soft, fluffy, a real treat. The tearoom itself is gorgeous: clean, pretty and comfortable, with lovely attention to detail. For half the price and double the quality of afternoon tea elsewhere, we had an absolutely wonderful time and had to be rolled out when we were finished! Can't wait to return.Thank you very much for this amazing review! Weâre so glad you enjoyed your visit, it was lovely to meet you and we hope to see you again soon x
