An 18th century grade II listed Georgian coaching inn nestled in the north Wiltshire downs, serving British modern classics in a relaxed atmosphere.
We went in last week ... We thought we would play it safe and only order a small glass of wine, a beer, and bowl of chips ... Yes.... just a bowl of chips ... firstly we were told that there would be half and hour wait ( yes just for chips ) .. then we were served our drinks in dirty glasses, and shown to sit at a table that hadnât be cleaned in 3 years ...Then to add insult to injury , they wanted £16.00 for just one bowl of chips , small red wine and one beer . Also to add,the chips had been microwaved and were disgusting. The pot of mayonnaise, looked like something I would not like to describe. Why canât these local pubs/restaurants offer clean fresh food and create an atmosphere??? The landlord should go back to doing what he does best ( working on the dustcart ) Appalling beyond belief. Big tip ... Swerve this place, carry on down into Calne and go to the Devine Cafe .The price you have quoted in your review is incorrect. If you can come back with a receipt proving this to be case I will happily refund the difference

Calnes newest family owned and run coffee shop , wine bar and restaurant. Always offering somewhere airy and welcoming to meet friends, have a business meeting or just hang out for an hour with possibly the best coffee in the area. If you are looking for
Now that it has moved into Calne centre (Trip Advisor or Owners should change the address) it is more accessible. The owner and his family are very welcoming and the atmosphere is warm and classy. I am not sure why other reviewers moan about the short menu - I love them and there is still plenty to choose from. This is a avocado and bacon cafe not a greasy spoon cafe and the prices are to match.I love the coffee (always good choice here) and the breakfasts are delicious. I don't mind a little wait (time for a second coffee!) as I know the food is freshly cooked and they do not skimp on the quality of the ingredients. This is what Calne needs to raise it's profile and quality of its offering - well done.

Good food with An asian Twist. We are Vegan, vegetarian and Gluten Free friendly. We also have a separate Menu for Vegan. We have the usual Panini Baguette Toasties Sandwiches Jacket potatoes Mains and desserts also available.
the two of us arrived to get one of the last two tables, so yes it was busy. But waited 10 mins to order and another 30 before one drink arrived! during which time we were advised there were no more Jacket potatoes, wish we were told on ordering, anyway changed order to brown bread sandwich, 5 mins later advised not enough brown bread left, so order changed again, eventually food arrived but still had to remind about second drink. It may of been busy, but, either get more staff, or train the existing to manage better. The coronation chicken was also too spicy for my wife to eat so most was left - more like a spicy curry apparently. Shame as I am sure when not busy and when stocked with enough food I am sure it could of been so much better, plus good choices for gluten free and Vegan menu. Nice cuppa though !I apologised from the bottom of my heart.I am truly wasnt prepared for the busy period on Saturday. Usually 1 staff is enough helping me throughout the day. Based on our daily service. But that day, A football team from Southampton arrived with out any booking, about 25 people, children and adult and asked mostly for Sandwiches. So most of our bread were gone. Getting a staff at the last minute is really hard too especially on the weekend so no one is available. We have no time to buy more ingredients as we started to get busy again after they have left. Apparently, there was a spring sing at the town centre and I dont even know it was on. Ordering. I do make all the food, made to order, first come, first served basis, so most of our ingredients are from fresh. Base of how much we sold everyday, we roughly estimate of how many item we have to stock everyday. So I am sorry if they are sold out by the time you came that day. So when you arrived, I already have loads of order in the kitchen that I am preparing and cooking for about 20 people not including your order. My staff should have mention that you will have to wait longer for your order as soon as you arrived. But my staff which already panicking but still doing his best, forgot to mentioned also about the sold out item and he apologised to me and I do apologsied to you on his behalf. For the coronation chicken sandwich. I made the sauce to order too and do tried the sauce first before serving, for me, it wasnt hot, but I am really sorry if they were to you. I will practice and make a new recipe to cater for everyone. Anyway, if both of you would like to come back and try again, please book your table and will make sure to give you a better service next time and give you a free meal to make up for the lost time and money you spent last Saturday.I really hope you give us another chance. Sincerely Tess

The Talbot Inn is a traditional English pub which serves real ale and home cooked food. There is a separate restaurant area for dining. All of the food is locally sourced and cooked on the premises.
What was a simple Sunday lunch outing became a feast of pure indulgence a Sunday roast par excellence can't express how good it was in words 32 quid well spent I would pawn my mother's wedding ring to eat there again.

Sarah, Matt & the team would like to welcome you to The Lansdowne Arms. Located in the picturesque village of Derry Hill, on the doorstep of Bowood grounds, we are blessed with magnificent views, three large gardens, a children's play area to enjoy in the
Been in a few times with friends of an evening for a drink. They havenât really got a great selection of drinks, itâs not as fun there as it used to be. Limited seating and no atmosphere..Thank-you for taking the time to leave a review on here. Freshly prepared breakfast, lunch plus afternoon tea. Great cakes , coffee and a selection of leaf teas.
Another visit to the Divine Cafe, now in Calne town, as you drive through on the A4 main street, with parking nearby. This really is an enchanting place to visit with a warmly welcoming Continental feel to it and the most delicious food cooked by proprietor Marc's consistently outstanding wife and seriously accomplished chef and wife Jane. The notion of genuine home-made food is so often disappointing, and we all know of homes where its eating OUT that is a treat! But Jane and Marc always serve dishes that meet the dreamy ideal. On this occasion all I needed was a quick snack and, although it was teatime, a most succulent large sausage roll was produced, so warm, indulgent, and flavoursome that I had to take a supply home for a prolonged orgy there. ( Plus a tender, invitingly fresh, rock cake that seduced me on the way out!)This couple and their charming, well trained young staff really do know what really good food is all about, and their wine bar service in the evenings has become a lovely, lively place to visit just like the best friendly family owned French bar.A refreshing place, well worth going out of your way to see what can be achieved by real enthusiasts (at modest prices) in a happy relaxing place.

This has always been such a lovely place to go For Sunday lunch but goodness it has gone downhill!! Staff are not friendly or welcoming all our glasses and cutlery where filthy! The beef was dry and tasteless with the Yorkshire pudding hard and dry not the usual veg and lovely cauliflower cheese was sadly missed , I was so disappointed as it has never let us down before. We will not be returning after many regular Sunday lunches it is such a shame.

Old world pub with big car park set in lovely location. Perfect place to park up and refresh after a long country walk. Food prepared fresh to order.
Freddie, the Publican, has been there less than a year, and yet,in all my tears of visiting pubs, I have never known a publican to work so hard to promote not only the Ivy, but also the village community. The food is superb, and substantial, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. His Sunday lunches are renowned, as are his weekend breakfasts! Many times he has been there on his own. Bring yourselves and bring your appetites! Good luck Freddie-you've earned it.Richard and Ruth

Cosy country free house pub using locally sourced & seasonal ingredients for delicious pub meals all set in the beautiful Wiltshire Countryside.
A lovely, quiet setting. Food was excellent and fairly priced. Rooms generally well-appointed except one which did not have a shower and had very restricted access to the bath. Would have suited someone about 4.5 ft tall. But comfortable bed non the less. Would visit again if in the area.
