Having been a regular visitor here for many years it was a welcome change to visit the Carob Bar this month and find that Steve, Graham and the team have transformed the place and brought back the buzz that this bar once had, but had been sadly lacking for the past few years. The food was fantastic and varied, lots of new drinks and cocktails available, and the service bang on! Live music and entertainment has also returned and the place felt just like the OLD Carob Bar again. So much so, some entertainment nights were sold out! I'm certain Steve has this place going in one direction and that's up. Keep up the good work, we can't wait to get back!!

Just love this gem. Have been several times and never disappointed. Food always good, great service and good setting close to Lauro Golf. It is low season for golf at this time so no problem in booking for Sunday lunch, but if you want to come here earlier or later (Spring/Autumn) in the year, make sure you book (phone (0034) 653010298 - this will save you having having to search for it on the web). Lots of our friends come here, even those not so 'local' as it is worth the drive. Prices very good, for food and wine. Will continue to visit time and time again.Thank you for your lovely review. But telephone number is (0034) 653 010 208

Lovely restaurant located in Mijas Pueblo. The new owners are both professional chefs who take pride in the food they serve and their customer service.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Kevin and Marlene are wonderful hosts and chefs and there is a warm and friendly feel to the place. We dined there for the first time since it changed hands last week and enjoyed it so much we made sure we ate there again before our holiday ended. I had the sausage and mash on the first day and it was absolutely delicious ! Usually, my wife and i would share a pudding but they all looked so delicious that we had to have one to ourselves each. We then went back again for Curry Night on the Thursday and had another great meal. And for the quality of food and ambiance that you get it is great value for monay as well. This restaurant deserves to be a great success under the new owners and we look forward to going back on many future occassions.

With all the trendy local tapas bars and restaurants available in Alhaurin el Grande, it's nice to also have a laid back atmosphere in a proper pub available as well; that is exactly what Jacqui and her team have created here. The clientele mostly consists of regular British pensioner expats, but occasionally a younger audience and a few of the local Spaniards frequent the place as well. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The drink selection is decent, but the lack of any ales is a bit disappointing for a British pub. Spanish Mahou is only â¬2.30 a pint though, which is a better price than anywhere else in Alhaurin el Grande; they also have a good selection of liqueurs behind the bar as well, which they are always happy to talk customers through before buying. Their food menu is large, but most of the time only consists of sandwiches, snacks, and burgers. The main courses are only served on Friday afternoons and evenings, which strikes me as a bit weird to limit it to just one day. The first time we ate there, we had a Sunday roast alongside a large English breakfast; both portion sizes were enormous. The roast beef was really good: served with great gravy and a really generous helping of roasted vegetables. It's as good as anything one would find in a pub in UK, except that the Yorkshire pudding was burned to the point of being unpleasant to eat, and they served cooked lettuce with the vegetables for some reason. We ate there again a few weeks later, and had a tasty daily menu selection of steak and ale pie with cheese and onion quiche. We all enjoyed the dishes, and the ale was really flavourful in the pie sauce. However, the chips they serve are incredibly plain with no seasoning at all; just big chunks of potato, which weren't so good. There was also a cheesecake shared between my friend and I. Both of us are chefs who used to make cheesecake together regularly; the one here was pretty bad, it was falling apart and, whilst the Baileys flavour somewhat alleviated this, it tasted pretty sickly. Elsewise on the menu, I would like to try the burgers - though the options don't seem particularly imaginative - and â¬9 is a lot of money to pay for just a burger and no accompanying drink. However, despite one or two minor complaints, there is no pretence that this pub is a restaurant or even that their emphasis is on food. For the most part, it's a social hub for local English speakers and does its job incredibly well with that whilst also being incredibly welcoming to non-British people as well. Predictably as a British-run establishment though, the closing times are also earlier than anywhere else in town. They close the bar at 22:00 on a weeknight, which is annoying - for most people outside of UK 21:00 is about the time to start thinking about going out, which leaves a very small window especially when people are working in Fuengirola or Marbella until 21:00 or so. However, if you can make it out early enough, The Black Horse is certainly the best pub I have visited in the whole Malaga area; with great drink prices, mostly good food, and always a friendly welcome with a perfectly sociable atmosphere.

We found this cafe on our recent visit to Mijas and it is situated in the corner of the main square. It is ideal for breakfast or a snack and they do home-made cakes, desserts and lovely Scones with clotted cream and jam. The staff are extremely friendly and it is nearly always busy as it is an ideal place to sit and have a drink or a cup of teas whilst soaking in the sun and atmosphere of Mijas. It seems to be mainly sandwiches and snacks but the service is friendly and the food is lovely. Well worth a visit as it is situated on the main square and you can enjoy a nice drink and snack before enjoying all the sites that Mijas has to offer.

Hi we are a friendly vibrant Bistro with a relaxed restaurant and bar, we welcome all customers to come and enjoy our tasty food. We have a large bar area and sofa for relaxing and also a small terrace at the front which has the sun on all day
Cuisine caters for the English. Staff friendly and pleasant. If you want a home from home then it's nice but there are better cheaper alternatives available within a stones throw. Food was OK but I have had countless better meals in the last days and took a fair while to be served

Small cafe in Mijas Pueblo that certainly delivers on quality of food and service. Warm welcome and effcient and friendly service from owners/ staff. It is there to appeal to Brits in the sun and it does that so very well- tho it does go a little off piste with pancakes , bacon and maple syrup! - and it was maple syrup with its distinctive flavour they didnt try and get away with a cheap alternative !! Avocado, tomato and egg also keeping up with latest trends. Well done. Well worth visiting.

We are a bar & restaurant serving great value delicious food. We serve both South African, British & International dishes.
We stopped off for lunch having driven past on many occasions. Easy parking, good welcome albeit in English, shown to a table on the terrace and ordered a drink again all in English. We were surprised about this. We decided to have the menu of the day for 12â¬. We chose the mackerel salad to start and beef stew for main cooked in a small traditional pot called a Potjie. Just a few things missing, no bread with the meal but when we asked they provided it, no oil and vinegar but again was provided in small dishes and no olives on the table. I only mention this because if you go into any Spanish restaurant thatâs normally what they provide. The service was good and the staff friendly but we were a bit disappointed that it is all very English. The meals were very tasty and we both enjoyed the food very much.
