We decided to try somewhere new for dinner and Sammy Lou's won. The place is small but we had no trouble being seated on a Thursday night. The wait staff are friendly, service with a smile. We ordered chicken fried steak, mine with mashed potatoes and okra, my husband black eye peas and onion rings. Our friends ordered fried green tomatoes, catfish, sweet potato fries and salad.The chicken fried steak was actually steak not soy bean stuff. The batter was light and just enough to cover the meat. My husband and I thought it was very good. My mashed potatoes were the real deal and good thought they cooled off too quickly. The okra was very good but too greasy for me. I don't know what my husband thought about his sides but he ate them all. Our friends liked their food.My husband ordered pecan pie and ice cream. When asked the waitress said that the pie was not homemade, that the baker was taking a break after the big Christmas holiday crush but hoped to be back baking fresh baked goods come Easter time. The pecan pie was good though so they have a good supplier.We liked our meal for the most part and intend another visit to this little gem of a restaurant.

I will start by saying my husband was not impressed by the banana pudding. " It tasted like vanilla pudding with vanilla wafers." We originally ordered the pull pork, but received a call back to the room that they were out of pulled pork, so we had to make a different choice for meats. Ordered the Sandwich Plate Kids' Meal with Chicken, Big Barbecue Sandwich with Chicken for myself and for my husband it was The Westener which was a choice of 2 meats and he got the sausage and the beef brisket. His statement about the beef brisket was that it was AWESOME. Dickey's delivered to the Comfort Suites which was great because once we got in after a long day, we were ready for PJs. I was not until the next morning that we realized that it was in walking distance of the hotel.

COLD FOODWe waited forever and the food was cold. My husband took a bite of his baked potato only to discover he had a mouthful of unmelted butter. The meat on everyones plate was cold and when I went to the cashier, he just looked at me in disbelief and said everything came out of the oven. The BBQ sauce in those little crock pots was warmer than our food.SERVICEthey were so slow that I watched one customer storm out of there. No he did not walk he stormed because he was pissed. Service was very poor because when they finished with the line they never came to our table and talked to us about our complaint.CLEANI watched as the guy chopping meat wipe his nose twice and go to the back and grab supplies. He never changed his gloves. My daughter asked for a to go box and she cam back with a container with a big greasy thumb print with bits of meat on it. YUCK!
