Things to do in Morges

There are many great and good restaurants in and around Lausanne and one particularly interesting location is Morges where I was looking for a new restaurant to invite some friends for lunch. Amongst the multitude of choices, my eye was caught by Le Cricket and the magic word "Voronoff", a dish for which I have a particular liking and which is not so easy to find on local menus. On booking a table for lunch, I mentioned that we would most probably order Voronoffs, only to be told that this dish was served almost exclusively in the evening and certainly not on the lunchtime chosen as there were a great number of bookings for Christmas groups. Nevertheless I maintained the booking as it seemed that the beef dishes were excellent. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of a shopping centre and, quite frankly, had I not booked, I might have made the greatest mistake of my life and gone elsewhere. From outside, the Cricket resembles any other simple cafe-restaurant and the decor inside is relatively spartan. However, the chairs are very comfortable and the place was busy whilst the welcome was warm and smiling. A tentative enquiry on the possibility of a Voronoff was met with a firm no but as we waited for our fourth guest to arrive, we were told that the chances were improving and by 1 o'clock we were in the fast lane. The starter is a simple mixed salad with a delicious sauce and whilst we were enjoying this the owner came to ask us how we liked our steaks cooked. Back he came with four plump fillet steaks which he cooked on a trolley at our table. Once cooked (to perfection) the pyrotechnics begin with a good slug of cognac, after which the meat is set to one side and the Voronoff sauce is prepared. It is basically a blend of various herbs, spices, tomato and cream which is poured in generous measure over the meat which can be served with either french fries or rice. I cannot honestly recall when I last ate a piece of beef so tasty and tender; it happens to be pampas beef from Argentina, selected because of its year-round consistency. Having feared that the Voronoff was extinct in the canton of Vaud, I am delighted to report that it is alive and well and living in Morges! The wine list is blissfully short but packed with a powerful selection. Our choice was a rich red from the Corbières region of south-west France, reasonably priced at 39 francs. It was all that was required to match the food but you can spend much more on wines of greater renown. The dessert menu carries mainly ice-creams and sorbets but also offers tarte tatin and the chef's wintertime speciality which is a tiramisu made with chestnut puree and served with a shot of Jack Daniels on the side. The beef was priced at 49 francs and the dessert at just 9 francs, almost painless when taking into account the quality of the dishes served.Le Crickets offers two challenges: finding a parking space in the underground garage and pushing open the entrance door. Once those two minor details are dealt with, the rest is little short of dining bliss.Use your GPS to find your way there and then make sure that you memorise the route for future visits!

Had a long business lunch here and the staff could not have been more attentive. Maya and everyone were warm and welcoming, very attentive to our needs, and made the experience enjoyable.Food was by far the best I've had in Lausanne, and everyone was delighted. The discovery plates of Mezze and a few grill plates were done perfectly, as was the jallab. Will definitely be returning often. We appreciate the review you have published on Keyann Café Libanais and your recommendation to other guests.
