If you are traveling on I-40 in Tennessee and see the sign for Lefty's Barbecue, stop! Welcoming staff. Sweet, half - half, or unsweet tea is freshly brewed and refilled often. A bowl of fresh, home-made potato chips satisfies while waiting for your order. My husband and I both ordered the pulled pork sandwiches---outstanding and hefty. Get a side order of hush puppies that are fried fresh, and made from the restaurant's own recipe. So light on the inside. Three choices for barbecue sauce---I recommend the hot and spicy. We were too full for dessert, but relented after seeing the yummy choices----opted for the fudge pie to go. Good decision. Oh, very impressive, kitschy cross-stitch line the walls---made by the owner's mother. Just a friendly place that has served good southern food since 1982.
This is a pretty small BBQ joint with only two small tables inside. You can tell that most of their business is take home. Don't let the size of the fool you, there is some mighty fine BBQ here. It was lunch time when I stopped in and I was able to grab a BBQ special. It was a pulled pork sandwich, chips, slaw, and a 32oz soda for only $6. I don't think you can beat that anywhere. Not only is the deal good; the BBQ is great also.Don't miss the opportunity to sample Big John's BBQ when you are next in Crossville.
We choose this restaurant for lunch, and were expecting a âsit down, severâ type of establishment. Be advised, you walk up to a counter, place your order, pay for it, serve yourself a beverage, and retrieve your order when called. They do have several tables if you wish to eat there. Thereâs nothing wrong with this style, just would prefer to know initially, so Iâm including it in my review. My husband had the loaded baked potato, and I had pork bbq sandwich with baked beans. Everything was very good, the beans were excellent. Another note - French fries are not offered, potato salad and cole slaw are. They do not carry Coke products, just Pepsi. We each had iced tea drawn from an urn, and I was not a big fan of it - tasted funny to me. We observed several people come in for carry out, which seemed a good choice. Again, the food was great, but expected something different.
