No meal brings happiness to your face year-round quite like barbecue. The smokey aroma of ribs, freshly made BBQ sauce, and beef stew fills your heart and stomach with joy. For over 43 years, Tommy's Barbecue has provided residents in Thomasville, NC, wit
We visited for lunch today (Saturday), and our expectations were not too high due to the recent Trip Advisor Reviews. Are we ever glad that we did not choose to go elsewhere based on these reviews?!? The barbecue, slaw, and hush puppies were absolutely delicious, and the Brunswick Stew was undoubtedly some of the best we've had. We have been on a barbecue tour for approximately 5 years now, some restaurants we have reviewed on Trip Advisor, and some not, but suffice it to say that we have visited 70+ barbecue restaurants in NC, SC, GA, VA, and TX, but primarily in NC, and Tommy's stands up to some of the very best!We had the Chopped Barbecue Plate with Barbecue Slaw, French Fries, and Hush Puppies, with a side of Brunswick Stew. We were a party of four, each of us a barbecue aficionado, and we were pleasantly surprised by our delicious lunch. The sweet tea was perfect, and the wait staff could not be nicer, coming back around to top off our glass every time we had a few sips! Because we were celebrating a birthday, the four of us shared a delicious homemade chocolate brownie, which we enjoyed very much!We live an hour and a half away, but if you find yourself near Thomasville, you cannot go wrong with Tommy's! Thanks for a delicious lunch, and we hope to return in the near future.

Been going there for 35 years and never a bad tenderloin biscuit! They serve Cheeriwine and that makes my heart happy! Those gravy biscuits are pretty tasty too!

We decided to come here for an early lunch. We arrived moments after they opened at 11 am. The parking lot was about empty when we arrived and filled up very soon after. This is a large open restaurant with an industrial feel - gray walls and large vintage photographs. Their menu is limited in size, which is probably a good thing. They seem to know their food niche - burgers, que, and brew, as they state it on their menu. They have one menu for both lunch and dinner. My husband had their Southerner Burger with the slaw on the side and french fries ($10) and sweet tea ($1.50). He liked the fries and his burger which was just a tad overcooked from his request of medium. He thought his slaw was dry and needed more seasoning. His sweet tea was dreadful and very bitter tasting. I have been searching for a restaurant with excellent beef brisket, so I ordered the Beef Brisket Plate at $18. For that price you get 1/3 pound of beef brisket, two sides and slaw. That's just slightly over 5 ounces of brisket - I had three slices of brisket. I tried to select unique sides, so I got corn pudding and tomato pie. The corn pudding was good - corn baked in a light cornbread style batter. The bready part of that side was fairly light. The best side was the tomato pie: tomatoes and onions in vinaigrette with cheese and a crust and some secret ingredients. On our next visit, both my sides will be tomato pie. The slaw was served in a tiny condiment size cup - two bites worth. It needed more seasoning and I wonder why they bothered giving such a paltry serving. The beef brisket was very good indeed. I really enjoyed it. It would be nice to have some sliced onion, dill pickle, and jalapeno slices to go with the beef brisket and perhaps a square of cornbread or Texas Toast. The Brisket Plate is $18 and each side is usually $3. So basically you are paying $12. for 1/3 pound of beef. That's $36. a pound for Brisket! We felt that most items were overpriced by $2 - $3. We had the most excellent server : William B. He was friendly, attentive, fully versed in menu item details, and kept our beverage glasses full. We will return to Sweet Old Bill's.

We were a little surprised by the limited menu, but the chopped pork was ok if you like the red slaw and vinegar sauce. Both are specialties of the house. The hush puppies were wonderful. My husband wanted beef and we were disappointed that there was only pork. He got the sandwich and did not really like it, as he wanted traditional bbq sauce. Service was good and the staff friendly.

First, my wife and I judge professional BBQ competitions, so we tend to be a bit more critical than most, and we generally prefer brisket, which is the most difficult meat to prepare well. That being said, we stopped here on a road trip and my wife ordered the brisket sandwich and I got the brisket plate. In general the meat was just OK. It was tender, but dry without the sauce on the table and the cole slaw on top, which was a chopped, not shredded, slaw. It went well with the meat and came in a regular and bbq variety. We each got a different type and both pf us preferred the regular. There was no really clear smoked meat BBQ taste to the meat. Not bad, not great. The high point were the hush puppies in a donut shape with a real sweet corn taste. The other down side, for me a least, was that the food was served in a cardboard sort of bowl, which made it difficult to cut the meat easily. I understand the reasons, but... BBQ is largely a matter of personal preference. Some might love this even though we found it just average for commercial BBQ, which is, admittedly, very different from competition que. That being said, we would come back should the occasion arise again.

While I love NC barbecue, and this establishment serves decent bbq, I don't recommend the place. I only eat there because it is next door to where I work and nothing else is convenient when short on time. Biscuits are actually rolls. Breakfast portions are huge, so worth the $ if you want to feel bloated and obese. Service completely lacks in quality. The young women who work the register/drive-through act as if you are inconveniencing them, actually turning their back halfway to me while I order to show their disdain that I am even addressing them; usually getting my order wrong. I suspect they are so used to being hit on by the locals that they assume every man is (they're not attractive girls, but at least they have teeth). Nobody smiles except the one time they thought I didn't hear them making a joke about my business attire and age. There is zero gratitude for your business, acting as if they are entitled to your supporting them (they don't thank you, they blurt out "you're welcome"). The locals who haunt the place stop talking and stare you down when you enter. If you can bear the extra mile or two to another establishment, it would be worth it. No southern hospitality here and only so-so food.

This was a nice little surprise and VERY pleasant experience finding this restaurant... we were in town visiting family due to a death and wanted to provide food... I used trip advisor as usually to get some ideas. I stumbled on this and saw they had online ordering (using a service Iâd never used I was very skeptical) but I knew we really had no time to waste! I gave it a shot and put in my Pick up time for âas soon as possibleâ No fees to use the service and all funds go to the proprietor... with that said we had a decent sized order $50 I received the email immediately and it literally took us 12 minutes to arrive to the restaurant. We walked in, greeted immediately and the order was waiting for us! Literally no time wasted at all!!! Our family was very pleased and commented several times how good the food was, I canât do pork so I did order some beef bbq too and it was great! The banana pudding was perfect! Itâs a small place and packed which to me is a very good sign. Iâd definitely go again if ever in the area. GET THE HUSHPUPPIES!! Theyâre sweet and fried just right!
