We decided to go out for Lunch & also decided to give the Donkey & Buskins another try , I phoned and made a reservations to be sure we got a table they were most accommodating suggesting a couple of times they had tables available we settled on 2.30 , we arrived at 2.20 and went to the bar ordered a drink and told them that we had a lunch reservation , the guy behind the bar sorted our drinks and advised us that the table would be available very soon it was just being cleaned , on time we were shown to our table and given the Menuâs which was extensive as well as the Roast options , we choose the Roast Beef & my partner had the Roast Lamb as we were away from the main bar area we decided to ask if our Dog was able to join us to which we were told of course our Lunch arrived quickly it was piping hot and absolutely delicious with lots of freshly cooked vegetables , we ordered another drink & also decided to have a sweet which also arrived promptly.Well done to everybody would definitely recommend & return .Even though the final bill was mixed up it was sorted.Thank you

Always difficult to rate a place based on one meal but even if it's the first visit or 100th visit the quality of the food should always reflect how the restaurant wants to attract your future business. Food was overcooked which I find hard to understand bearing in mind I have cooked it myself at home and enjoyed in other restaurants. I'm not a professional cook. We arrived for a cold drink. We ordered and then asked for food. The mussels are amazing. The burger looked delicious too pink for my partner yet it looked too epic for me. We need to go back. Myself and my friends walked to wivenhoe from Brightlingsea for dinner and we thought we would try the rose and crown, I hadn't been for along time as the food is always rubbish and it still is!I recommend people go to the fish shop up the road or the black boy or greyhound pub they are much much better!

My family , a party of 6, called in today , completely without research after a walk .I canât say anything but positive . Very nice seating area in the garden . Good varied menu. Very friendly service at the bar by staff . Dog friendly.Our meals were really lovely . The Caesar salad one person had was immense and really stole the show . A def return for our family , thank you .

Visited today 18th June almost empty in there more around the bar drinking. Young girl server came up to take our order. She said soup is golden vegetable so we both ordered soup. On the menu it stated with roll and butter. The soup arrived after a fair wait for it and so did the roll and would you believe the usual little butter pat which had already had the foil lid removed. I wondered why? Firstly the roll was a soft bap the type meant to be used for a Burger dry and horrible. Looked at the so called butter it was a margarine yellow colour. Tasted it guess what it was margarine, Ate the soup nothing special at all. When girl came back to clear soup bowls I said to her that is vegetable spread or margarine definitely not butter. Her reply I do not know I do not work in the kitchen, I said well tell them the roll was bad enough as it should be a crusty roll with soup. And on the menu it states butter so it is dishonest to then serve margarine. Now know why the foil lid was removed before being bought to the table. Because that would have stated no doubt margarine. Girl asked did I want to order anything else I said no. As it now stood out a mile they cut corners here trying to pass margarine off as butter what else would they get up to? Husband asked for the bill. When the girl brought it to the table I asked her what did they say in the kitchen about passing off margarine as butter. Her reply was so quiet barely audible it was obvious she had said nothing to anyone. As to her this was normal I should think cutting corners. here so why comment she was not surprised at all, If it had been a genuine mistake she would have said sorry and took the roll away and the margarine as I had spread some on the roll and bought me another. No this was no mistake. And in all my years of eating out have never been served butter with the lid already removed which says it all. Well you lost out as we never ordered dinners which we intended, And we will never come back there ever. No doubt most of your customers are elderly I am myself but not that daft that I cannot tell margarine from butter. We eat out a lot so you have done yourself no favours here at all.

Hadn't been to the Anchor for a while but after a pleasant walk at a nearby nature reserve thought we would have lunch and it was really lovely ,good menue and our meals were of the highest quality and so fresh all cooked to order and served by a lovely professional waitresswho along with the young lady behind the bar always has a smile ,we sat outside on a lovely summer's day what a perfect setting ,certinaly won't leave so long next time

We visit this pub several times a year mostly in the summer because of its lovely beer garden and pretty view although we rarely eat there because itâs a tad expensive. Previously it has been a very pleasant place with a nice cliental and atmosphere and we thought it would be ideal to take a close friend for lunch however when we visited yesterday something had changed. While the quality of the food was very good we waited nearly 45 minutes between ordering and receiving our food. When querying it was explained that they were prioritising people with young children which to be fair I could understand because these children were somewhat âdisruptiveâ but nevertheless. While not the fault of the staff (the parents are entirely to blame) the children were noisy and ruined the ambience and we felt that there should have been a separate area for families - incidentally we are grandparents and understand children are children. People are paying a significant amount of money for their meal and should not have to wait 45 minutes and be deafened while eating. In closing I must stress that the staff were friendly and the food very good.Whilst it's not our standard code of practise to prioritise young children over adults, on this isolated occasion I felt it was the most appropriate course of action, given the situation.The child you referred to in your review had severe learning difficulties and to alleviate the infant's distress that day,I believed it beneficial to all involved, if the child was served their meal as quickly as possible.This was the only table that was prioritised over yours.This did add a 20 minute delay onto the normal expected food wait of 20-25 minutes, to which I can only apologise.
