We visited the Thirsty Giraffe today. Not a pleasant experience. The day was rainy and windy. Many of our first choices for lunch were full since the resort visitors have little to do when it rains. We pulled into a nearly empty parking lot. First clue! We ordered the special hamburger described as having three meats. We ordered one with French fries. I ordered a craft beer. We swatted at flies to pass the time. The beer came and after a few sips my wife observed that the glass was cracked nearly the full length. We got the waitress’ attention. The waitress took the offending glass and returned quickly with another. The glass was filled to approximately the same amount that I had returned with a little more foam suggesting that the contents was poured from the first to the second which is not the usual response to retuning a cracked or dirty glass.------ Second clue. The wife excused herself and went to the ladies room. I swatted at a few more flies. She returned with the comment,” you’d think that they would check the bathrooms when they first open. There is no toilet paper in the ladies room. ------- Third clue. We swatted at more flies. The food came and the waitress left without asking about mustard and ketchup requirements. We each tried one French fry. They were very greasy, and we agreed that we would not eat the res of the fries.---- Fourth clue. We could use more napkins since the tiny ones that wrapped the fork and knife were now consumed wiping the grease from our fingers. We waited while we tried to get our waitress’s attention. We swatted at more flies. I got up and found a few more napkins, but did not see any ketchup or mustard at the serving station. The waitress finally returned for the obligatory question, “How is everything?” We reported that the French fries were greasy. Rather than responding with something like, “I’ll tell the cook. Thanks for telling us.” She says, “You are the first people to ever tell me that.”---- Fifth clue.We decided to eat the burger with knife and fork since the bun appeared greasy. We attacked the innards and found the hamburger and bottom bun were soaked in grease---- Sixth clue. We could only identity two of the three promised different meats. --- Seventh clue.We paid the bill which did not include an adjustment for the returned, not edible French fries, and left a minimum acceptable tip. We will not return until the management changes hands.Hi, I'm sorry you had a poor experience at The Thirsty Giraffe, and while I do wish your experience would have been better I would like to address your "7 clues". I apologize in advance for the straight forward nature of my response, but I find your initial review to be ignorant and ludicrous.Clue #1 - when transferring beer from glass to glass, it loses the head, it doesn't gain head. When pouring pressurized 35° beer into a new glass, it yields a foam head. The foam head is necessary to release the gasses and aroma, and thus an equal amount of beer as to one that has sat and had a few sips taken.Clue #2 - each stall is equipped with a dispenser that holds (2) 2000' rolls of tissue. It can not be changed until 1 roll is empty, at which point the user has to demonstrate the ability to slide the door and start to utilize the 2nd 2000' roll at which point we replace the 1st rollClue #3 - we clearly identify the fries on the menu as "home cut fries". They are not frozen and battered which can pick and transfer grease, they are home cut per order and in the process of deep frying the outer surface sears and the product cooks from within by the oil heating the products internal moisture. What you experience is not grease, it is moisture from the potatoClue #4 - the napkins we use are a 2 ply jumbo napkin, folded over 4 times to wrap the silverware where as most establishments utilize a napkin 50% that size. I personally have never had an issue utilizing that same single napkin through appetizer, main and desert courses Clue #5 - once again, moisture. You've ordered a burger which was cooked over a flame grill where it drips it's own grease not on a flat top where it pools in grease, topped with moist pulled pork and bacon or sausage. 10oz - 12oz of meat on a bun, if you wanted it dry it would have to be cooked to a point where all moisture had been rendered. Yuck..Clue #6 - you obviously didn't read the menu, because while it doesn't contain a "promise" what it does contain is a very clear description of each item. It start with a burger that's a ground blend of 3 meats - Chuck, brisket and back rib, topped with pulled pork and bacon OR sausage. Ummm, unless your a microscope your not going to identify the 3 ground meats which make up the burger, and as you've already voiced your burger was topped with the 2 meats as described on the menuClue #7 - I do not know why you would expect a refund for ordering and receiving an item exactly as described on the menu you ordered from, but I'd be happy to comp you the $3 should you choose to come back, actually read the menu before ordering, and see if you've figured out how to operate a toilet paper dispenser.BTW 2017 was a record setting black fly hatch, and there was absolutely no where in the Northwoods where doors were opening and closing with regularity that didn't have the same issue.Kindly

Stopped in here a few times, the appetizers are good, so on this last visit decided to try their pizza. This is pizza you could get at a fast food restaurant. Italian sausage is prepackaged (where every piece is symmetrical) and lacks the toppings you order (look from the picture how little onions they threw on). The crust is medium thickness (prepackaged) so for us (we like cracker thin crust) it was too much bread. I definitely wouldn't come here for pizza. The location on the water is great, you can pull up by boat & I would guess on snowmobiles too.Staff is friendly.

Excellent fish fry (Friday night) menu - cod, walleye, perch, scallops and shrimp. All are lightly breaded and all are delicious. Fish fry is served until 9 p.m. on Fridays; otherwise you can order from the bar menu after that. They have specials most night of the week, and the Saturday night steak and shrimp are mouth watering. They have ribs now, but I've never tried them, but they look delicious and others have told me they are great. Wednesday night is the buck/dollar burger and it is just the right size (quarter pound, I believe). I wouldn't order the Wednesday night burger for a while since I was from the east, I though it was from a buck (venison)!. You can't go wrong here with delicious soups, daily specials and the weekend breakfasts served until 11 a.m. Last Sunday I had the fluffiest pancakes ever! I highly recommend this bar and grill. They keep a clean kitchen and are friendly to boot! I forgot to mention the pork (loin) chops - the juiciest pork you'll ever have - the pork is my favorite but it isn't served on Friday nights!

Our go to every Friday night fish fry bar. Great service, good, plentiful food, good drinks, friendly staff and service. Outside patio is great for summer. Over looks Lake Nokomis. Can't beat it! Only thing is that there is only 1 "low" table so you may have to wait if you don't like/or can't sit on high bar stools.Thank you so much for the great review. We have only 1 "low" table in the bar, however, the sunroom offers 4 "low" tables, and our deck another 4 (weather permitting). Hope to see you soon to change that 4 star review to a 5!

Pine Tree Supper Club

Reviewed By BigDaddyDave55138

Wisconsin Supper Clubs are slowly disappearing as new dining concepts take hold and the younger generations look for experiences more in tune with ‘their’ lifestyle. My wife and I have always loved their ambiance and their old time style menus. So, on our trip with my wife's sisters to visit family in Wisconsin, we just had to at least sample one of these traditional Wisconsin dining venues! The Pine Tree Supper Club has a sign out front that states “Fine Dining and Cocktails” and the building itself “looks like” a Wisconsin supper club. The dining area of the Pine Tree Supper Club also screams ‘supper club’ with wood paneling, a salad bar and the feeling that it’s been there a long time. Unfortunately, we weren’t hungry enough to really test out the menu. We were there for drinks and snacks…skipping the ‘real’ food on the menu. How about steak sandwiches, deep fried walleye, prime rib, bacon wrapped filets, stuffed shrimp and a 25 oz. sirloin... Almost all on-line reviews talk about the ‘huge portions’! I took special note of one ‘heart stopping’ luncheon special called “The Spirit”. It is an open faced sandwich…toast layered with ham, mushrooms, asparagus spears and Hollandaise sauce loaded with melted mozzarella cheese over everything! But I digress. Back to our snacks... Everything we ordered was fried! We had deep fried cheese stuffed jalapenos, fried cheese, fried cauliflower, fried shrimp and fried onion rings! It was all plentiful and good too... FYI, the Pine Tree Supper Club reeks ‘north woods’ ambiance! One wall was laden with lake trout trophies, typical decor for the supper club atmosphere… It’s “the look”. Other popular decorative elements in supper clubs are trophy bucks, turkey, bear, etc. and/or paddles, canoes, fishing poles, etc. Service was tops and some of the staff members had been working here for a long time...
